INTRODUCTION
Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino is located at the Las Vegas Strip. One of its key attractions is
the real sand wave pool referred to as “the Beach”. The resort is owned by the MGM Resorts
International. The resort is South-East Asian in theme. The resort has the fifth largest
Convention center in the USA. Mandalay Bay is a 43-story luxury resort and casino at the south
end of the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned by Vici Properties and The
Blackstone Group and operated by MGM Resorts International. It was developed by Circus
Enterprises and completed at a cost of $950 million. It opened on March 2, 1999, on the former
site of the Hacienda hotel-casino. MGM acquired Mandalay Bay in 2005, and Blackstone
became a co-owner in 2020. Vici acquired MGM's ownership stake in 2022
Mandalay Bay has a tropical South Seas theme and covers 120 acres (49 ha). It includes a

Seasons hotel, which has rooms on floors 35 through 39. It is managed separately from the
Mandalay Bay hotel. In 1999, the Four Seasons became the first Las Vegas hotel to win the
AAA Five Diamond Award.
Several additions opened in 2003, including the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, and a
second hotel tower, The hotel at Mandalay Bay. It has 1,117 rooms and was renamed Delano
Las Vegas in 2014. A shopping mall, Mandalay Place, was also added in 2003. Other features
include a House of Blues club, the Shark Reef aquatic attraction, and an events center known
as Michelob Ultra Arena. The resort also has an 1,800-seat theater, which has hosted several
Broadway shows, including Chicago (1999–2000), Mamma Mia! (2003–2009), and The Lion
King (2009–2011). Since 2013, the theater has hosted Michael Jackson: One.
In 2017, gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire from the hotel's 32nd floor, killing 60 people in

The etiquettes, practice, and habits of employees are prior literature that has suggested that
gaming venue employees might be an at-risk group for developing gambling problems. A variety
of occupational stressors and workplace factors were uncovered for causing the elevated risk.
However, little theory-driven research has been conducted to investigate Asian gaming venue
employees’ experience of work stress and gambling behavior. Adopting the transactional
theories of stress and coping, this exploratory study examined perceived job satisfaction, work
stressors, stress strains, coping responses and gambling behavior among Chinese casino
employees in Macau. Semi-structured interviews with fifteen casino employees (9 men and 6
women) were conducted. Many interviewees described working at casino as very stressful.
Seven types of workplace stressors were identified. Most were aware of the harmful effects of
work stress on their health. They experienced physical and psychological strains despite various
coping strategies were employed to alleviate job stress. Many gambled after work to ‘unwind’.
Using the DSM-IV criteria, one male employee could be categorized as a pathological gambler,
and five men exhibited symptoms of problem gambling. In addition to job stress and male
gender, other risk factors for problem gambling were also found. The study results have
implication for workplace stress prevention and responsible gambling practices.
CONCLUSION
MGM Resorts International should consider implementing several policies in order to remain
competitive in the hospitality and gaming industry. It should try reducing its huge long-term debt,
since this has affected its credit ratings. If it manages to reduce its long-term debt, investors will
become confident on the liquidity of the company. They will be willing to invest in this company
by purchasing its shares. The company can reduce its long-term debt by adopting several
strategies. One of the strategies is reducing its huge expenditure that it incurs in its expansion
strategy, especially concerning its projects in China. In addition, it may also consider obtaining
capital by issuing additional shares to the public. But MGM Resorts plans to shut down hotel
operations at the Mirage and Mandalay Bay resorts during the midweek, due to the lack of
consumer demand resulting from COVID-19. Beginning November 30, the hotel towers at the
two iconic Las Vegas Strip properties will be open for business only between noon on
Thursdays and noon on Mondays, though the resorts’ casinos, restaurants and amenities will
remain open. Capacity for public gatherings has been reduced from 250 to 50 people, or 25
percent of fire code capacity, whichever volume is smaller. Private gatherings can now consist
of participants from no more than two households with a maximum of ten people in attendance.
