Jesus Christ The Hope of The World
1 Timothy 1:1
INTRODUCTION
This morning, I want to reason with you on the topic- JESUS CHRIST, THE HOPE OF
THE WORLD.
b. In Genesis 3, after introducing sin into this world. History tells us that the world has
always be moving away from God. Man fell in Genesis 3, in Genesis 4, the Bible tells
us of the first murder. By the time we get to chapter 6, the Bible says, “Then the LORD
saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the
thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that He had
made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.” Genesis 6:5-6. God
brought flood on the inhabitants of the earth and save the family of Noah. But did
the flood stop men from sinning? No. I am reminded of Sodom and Gomorrah they
came after the flood. From the time Adam sinned to date, sin reigned. The question
that comes to mind is what is the problem? Why does it seem that man delight in
sinning? Paul told me the answer. Look at Romans 1:28. In Romans 1:28, Paul said,
“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over
to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;” That is the cause of the
state of the world. When man decided not retain God in his knowledge, he will fall
from God.

c. In the times of Isaiah, Israel has become lazy and have abandon God. They have put
their confidence in Egypt to protect them from Assyria. Isaiah preached to Ephraim
and Jerusalem about God’s judgement coming on them. Isaiah gave them a picture
of how a man who has abandoned God look like. Isaiah pictured Jerusalem as a man
sleeping. In chapter 28:20 says, “For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the

DISCUSSION
a. In 1 John 5:19, John said, “We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies
under the sway of the wicked one.” On the day of Pentecost, Peter told his
audience who were reluctant on obeying the gospel, “And with many other
words he testified and exhorted them, saying, be saved from this perverse
b. Crime is on the increase. Statista tells us that 51% of the violent crime committed
in Ghana involved gun. 32% of the violent crimes are involved with knife. The
streets are not safe. Suicide rate is increasing in the world. In 2014, World Health
that document they estimated that almost 800,000 people die from suicide every
year. That means one person dies every second. The world is filled with religious
error. There are those teaching that there is no God. There are those teaching

that the Bible is wrong. There are those making business out of the name of
Jesus. There are horrible things that are done in the name of Christianity.
a. Jesus Christ is not the just a hope of the world but the only hope of the world.
The world is lost in their condition and they need Jesus. In Colossians 1:26-27,
Paul told the brethren, “the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from
generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to
make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles:
which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Which is what Paul? What did God hid
from ages and from generations- Christ in you, the hope of glory. The book of
Philippians looks up with how the person is supposed live his life. In chapter 1
Paul told us that Jesus Christ is the purpose of life. In Philippians 1:21, Paul said,
“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” How will the world be if people
are living with this purpose? His whole purpose of living is centred on Jesus
Christ. He moves to work thinking about Jesus Christ. In his dealing with people
the thinking is what will I do to glorify Jesus. In his discussion with his friend, they
know that this guy is a Christian. Paul said, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die
b. In chapter 2, Paul told us Christ is the pattern of life. Chapter 1- Christ is the
purpose of life; Chapter 2- Christ is the pattern of life. In Philippians 2:5, Paul
said, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,” The Latin people
that the early Christians sing Philippians 2 to Jesus Christ. Let this mind be in you
which was also in Christ Jesus. Imagine a world where everybody is just like

Jesus. Our life is just like him; we talk like Jesus; we think like him; we relate with
others like Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 11:1, Paul said, “Imitate me, just as I also
imitate Christ.”
c. In chapter 3, Paul told us the that Christ is the prize of life. The prize of life is not
money; the prize of life is not children; the prize of life is not even good health.
Jesus Christ is the prize. Paul said, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have
apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and
reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the
