Introduction
A century ago, Henri Fayol identified five management functions that have been recognized by
only four functions, which is an organized group of functions that a manager should use for the
business or organization to reach the business's goals. The first function is planning, the manager
needs to have the knowledge of what is the organization's work and goals. The second function is
organizing which is the capability of keeping every daily operation organized and arranging the
organization's resources. The third function is the leading function which includes motivating
employees and guiding them. The fourth function is controlling which handles monitoring the
business’s performance and making sure that the organization's work has been satisfied the set
goals.
This research is divided into four parts, each part discusses one management function, first part
is about describing what is planning and how to process it within the organization. The second
part will deal with organizing and it contains the organization's chart and structure. The third
topic is talking about leading and the organization's CEO and his background. The last part of
this research deals with the last function controlling contains the techniques that the organization
has been using. This research will discuss Google company in business administration.
Google was founded by Stanford University's two students Larry Page and Sergey Brin. This
well-known company started as a university project to a worldwide billion-dollar company states
in 36 different countries which has many unique advanced technical products and services.

Google's mission
Google's mission is "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and
useful". (Our approach – How Google Search works, 2022)
Google's Strategy
Google relied on a differentiation strategy, Google wanted to distinguish its services and
products from other companies because it wanted to maintain its competitive advantage. For
example, Google has the most famous service in the world, which is the Google search engine.
Compared with other search engines such as Yahoo and Bing, Google search engine is the fastest
and smartest. Google has also been interested in developing new products and improving
existing ones, such as Chrome. (Google’s Generic Strategy (Porter’s) & Intensive Growth Strategies -
Panmore Institute, 2022)
Officially, Google has been classified as having the best organizational culture, because it has
truly realized what employees needs from the freedom within the company to deal with work in a
way that suits them and gives them the opportunity to be creative. Google has enhanced
cooperation between employees and created an environment that allows them to innovate. It was
keen to give the employee confidence because trust is what makes the employee generate
creativity, good performance, and job satisfaction. It focused specifically on employee
happiness, such as providing free meals, giving them time to take naps, and providing sports
such as table tennis and video games. (Editors, 2022)

Google's human resource management
Google has been interested in managing human capital, so it has allocated a special section for
human resources management, which is a department that revolves around the employee and is
concerned with empowering him and it aims to keep employees motivated and satisfied. Human
resources policy in hiring begins with choosing the right person in the right position, especially
when appointing new people, as they choose talented people who are compatible with the
general environment of the company, and human resources managers believe that the more
employees who are compatible with the environment, the greater the overall productivity of the
company. After that, Google made sure to provide opportunities for continuous learning and
growth of employees. For example, Google has special training programs related to presentation
skills, content development, management, and leadership, and it provides free lessons in foreign
language and culture for Google employees. Finally, Google has many privileges to increase
jealousy among employees. These privileges are an important part of Google's human resources
strategy and has been designed to motivate employees to collaborate and innovate, such as
flexible working hours, casual clothing, animal admission, and many other perks that can’t be
counted. (Google's Human Resource Management Strategy, 2022)

Google’s
organizational chart
An organizational chart
shows the internal
structure of an
organization or company.
6
After considering the Google’s organizational chart, it seems that the Mission factor is the most
influential factor in the Google’s organizational chart, that Google's activities support its mission
(which is to organize the world's information and make it useful). There are sections for
collecting information and sections for disseminating it, and many more. They also support
diversity, as the world’s information is very large and varied, so Google keeps pace with the
difference in information by creating diverse and innovative sections.
Google's structure
Most large companies, including Google, rely heavily on matrix in their structure for its
flexibility, the ability to add new sections instead of modifying the entire system and a lot of
features. And according to the organizational chart, it can’t be said that Google’s structure is
entirely based on the matrix. In addition, the functional plays an important role, but in general
the matrix stands out, then the functional.
7
Centralization and Decentralization
centralization and decentralization are both beneficial, and neither of them can be dispensed
with, but it depends on the type of company and the appropriate system for it. centralization
ensures fairness and equality among employees also prevents duplication of tasks in order to
reduce costs, as well provides a clear chain of command that supports speed in routine
operations. But there are cons to centralization represented in that it is seen as inflexible because
employees cannot make decisions by themselves, so they need to take permission for every
decision, so it delays operations and limits communication and creativity because employees
cannot communicate directly, easily, or share their ideas to improve operations. (Miller, 2016),
(Centralization, n.d.).
Decentralization is delegation, its advantages are that it helps the growth of the organization and
motivates managers and employees to achieve and take responsibility for their work, supports
innovation and flexibility, and assist to adapt quickly. While the disadvantages of
decentralization appear in the difficulty of co-ordinate between departments because each
department enjoys independence, in addition to it is high cost, and chaos and redundancy may
occur in some operations. (Miller, 2016).
Google is more likely to be considered as a decentralized company. Given the large size of the
organization the decision-making process is spread out, the management make important and
critical decisions while other duties are delegated to lower level managers, also since decision-
making is not limited to top managers, this motivates the employee to develop innovation,
production, and also generates employee loyalty, as a result, the departments in Google are
varied, and what supports diversity is the independence of each department by itself.

the leadership style called distributions leadership and it’s a blend of the four primary leaderships
styles which are autocratic, democratic, laisse-faire and paternalistic. (Larry Page Leadership Style -
Financhill, 2022)
Distributed leadership gives experts on the front line the autonomy to achieve their goals without
waiting for authorization. This can result in benefits such as speed, productivity in giving
employees full independence and trust in their work, innovation to increase in productivity and
Sharing knowledge and experience, and talent retention in giving the workers opportunities to

Leadership challenges facing CEO’s
Managing people is one of the toughest and most challenging tasks. In any firm every leader face
challenges on a daily basis. The first main one is effective communication, the world of today’s
business requires CEOs to communicate on multiple levels of management and you must
connect on an individual level, inspire people to move and build trust, it’s also very hard because
it takes commitment therefore it’s a priority which takes consistency, discipline, clarity of
message, and a willingness. The second challenge is to be a strong decision-maker, each day you
will be faced with decisions like terminating an employee or making key financial choices. Some
of these decisions won't be as difficult to make as others, and what makes it highly challenging is
that some people might be upset in the end. However, you must think about your company’s
long-term growth and future, and what might be difficult at this moment can prove resourceful in
the future. No matter what, every decision comes with a group of pros and cons. As a CEO,
you’re going to have to decide in the best interest of your company. Last of all successful
execution, there are reasons why leaders fail to execute, such as when they don’t follow their
own plan with discipline and once they put the wrong people in the wrong jobs to make it
happen. With every decision you make, either big or small make sure to execute. This means
creating plans, doing all of your research, and getting the right team together to accomplish the
plan to be a success. Finally, be able to drive Inspiration and Motivation to your team in order to
be the best they can be. (Leadership Challenges & Issues, 2022)

fraudulent methods, such as entering keywords over and over or showing content on Google that
is different from what users will see, a practice known as anonymity. Hackers sometimes
succeed in accessing legitimate websites and turning them into unwanted websites that may
redirect users to scams or worse, most websites have been hacked were many websites are facing
misleading image ads that redirect visitors to websites Not authorized. Unbeknownst to them,
Google's systems and algorithms solved the problem by automatically detecting and removing
the vast majority of spam, as they invested significant resources in order to communicate with
webmasters to inform them of problems related to spam on their websites. (How Google Search works
