Chapter 1 Introduction 1. Background of The Study

BAPCO is a wholly government-owned oil company in Bahrain established in 1929. It has grown from initial oil discoveries in 1932 and 1948 to fully owning the Bahrain refinery by 1997. The company currently explores for oil and gas, drills, produces, refines, and distributes petroleum products and natural gas both domestically and for export. However, the current systems and procedures are not described. The purpose of the study is to develop a new system that is more efficient, fast, reliable, and user-friendly for disseminating company information. The objectives are to describe the existing system, identify problems, and prove the proposed system is technically and financially feasible.

INTRODUCTION

1. Background of the Study

Give the brief history of the company. How it started? When? Who is the owner/s of the company? How does the company improved as time goes by?

BAPCO, wholly owned by the Government of Bahrain, is engaged in the oil industry including exploration and prospecting for oil, drilling, production, refining, distribution of petroleum products and natural gas, sales and exports of crude oil and refined products.

2. Companys Current Situation Describe in detailed the current procedure of the company where it clearly defines the statement of the problem.

3. Purpose of the Study Why did you choose this type of system? Discuss the reason/s of choosing this type of system for the company.

4. Objectives of the Study 4.1 General Objective

State the main goal of the study. Ex. To be able to develop an Online Registration system for AMA International University that is more convenient, efficient, fast and reliable in disseminating information. 4.2 Specific Objective

List down the specific objectives of the study. Ex. 4.2.1 4.2.2 4.2.3 4.2.3.1 Specifically the study aims the following: To describe the existing system. To list down the problems encountered in the existing system. To develop a system that will: provide fast and reliable access of information

4.2.4 To prove that the proposed system is technically, operationally and economically feasible.

5. Hypothesis of the Study It answers the objective of the study into two(2) ways: Alternative Hypothesis (Ha): There is a significant difference between the proposed and the existing system in terms of convenience, efficiency, speed and reliability in disseminating information. Null Hypothesis (Ho): There is a no significant difference between the proposed and the existing system in terms of convenience, efficiency, speed and reliability in disseminating information.

6. Scope and Delimitation Scope. Describe the process / procedures included or part of the proposed system. Delimitation. Discuss the process / procedures NOT INCLUDED OR NOT COVERED in the proposed system. It gives the limitation of the study.

7. Definition of Terms Name and define operationally some terminologies being used in the study which is not readily understood by the user.
