SCOPE This method statement shall apply for all reconstruction works. The intention of this, work method statement is to give general guideline for the roadwork construction, Details of the procedures contained herein may be modified based upon actual ground condition and site requirements. PROCEDURES 61 Soil Investigation Works 6.1.1 Tocarry out preliminary test, DCP to investigation the profile of road. 6.2 Excavation Works 6.2.1 Demareation on-site shall be carried out to determine the extend of repair area. Revision Date : 01.10.2020, SAFWA GLOBAL VENTURE (M) SDN BHD METHOD STATEMENT 6.3 Sub Base 63.1 6.3.2 6.3.3 63.4 63.5 PAVEMENT - RECONSTRUCTION The sub base material shall be hard, durable and clean from water. It shall be granular material and shall be free from organic material, clay balls, and any other deleterious substances. The materials will be delivered to the site by tipper lorries and spread and leveled by means of a back pusher for the full width of the pavement. The material shall be filed and compacted to the required thickness as. specified in the drawing/specification. Compaction of the sub base layer shall be carried out by using vibrating roller to achieve relative dry density as per specification. The final surface of granular sub base layer shall be regulated and trimmed by back pusher to the required level and cross fall within the specified vertical tolerances. Compaction work will be done using roller ‘compactor. Field Density Test (FDT) or CBR Test on the subgrade shall be carried out according to the specification. 6.4 Laying Road Base Material 6.4.1 6.42 643 Ref No, : SGVMSB-TED-MST.01.02 ee ‘The crusher run road base to be placed on top of the sub base shall consisting of crushed aggregate laid in layers each of thickness not ‘exceeding 200mm and to give the specified total compacted thickness and width, correct line and levels as requirement/specified in the BQ. ‘The material shall be crushed rock of hard durable particles or fragments of rock crushed to the correct size, well graded and lie within the following ‘grading limits specified in the specification. Care shall be taken to prevent segregation of the material into the coarse and fine fractions. The compaction not less than 95% of the maximum dry density determined in the JKR/SPJ/2008-S4. 65 Ret No: SCVMSB-TED-MST-01-02 SAFWA GLOBAL VENTURE (M) SDN BHD | METHOD STATEMENT PAVEMENT - RECONSTRUCTION | Bituminous Prime Coat and Tack Coat 6.5.1 6.5.2 65.3 65.4 656 Asphaltic Concrete Bir 661 66.1.1 6.6.2 6.6.2.1 An approve bituminous prime coat shall be applied to the top of the completed crusher run base course before laying the asphaltic concrete binder course. Bituminous prime coat work shall only be carried out in dry and warm weather when the surface is essentially dry. Immediately prior to applying the bituminous prime coat, the surface shall be swept using a power broom followed by @ compressed air blower to keep surface clean. The bituminous shall be applied by means of a distributor at suitable rates but shall be in the range 0.5 to 1.0 litre/sq.m.The temperature of bitumen emulsion $S1K shall be maintained in the range 25° C to 45 ° The prime coat shali be sprayed well in advance and leave for 24 hours for curing. Prior to applying the bituminous tack coat, the surface to be treated shall be clean and dry. Notwithstanding any earlier approval of this surface, any damage to it or deterioration of it shall be made good before bituminous tack coat is applied. Bituminous tack coat material shall be rapid-setting cationic bitumen emulsion of grade RS-1K. The rates of application shall be in the range 0.25 to 0.56 lliters/sq.m. The temperature shall be maintained in the range 25° C to 45 °C during spraying operations. ‘Spraying will be performed for the whole surface that will be covered with wearing course. \der Course, AC 20 or AC 28 AC 20 or AC 28 mix will follow the approved mix design and trial mix. The aggregates shall be surface dry and shall be mixed at an appropriate temperature. The mixed material as delivered to the laying site shall be between 140 degrees Celsius to 160 degrees Celsius. Laying Procedure Work shall commence on site upon approval and acceptance of the road base. | Revision Ne, 00 ——— | ~ 1] SAFWA GLOBAL VENTURE (M) SDN BHD CT 6.6.2.2 6.6.2.3 6.6.2.4 6.6.2.5 6.6.26 6.6.2.7 METHOD STATEMENT PAVEMENT - RECONSTRUCTION I The surface to receive the asphaltic concrete binder course shall be free of all damage, loose materials and standing water by sweeping. Any damage to or deterioration of it shall be made good before asphaltic concrete paving work is commenced. Prime coat of approved bitumen emulsion shall be applied as per Specification on the prepared surface prior to lay of the asphaltic binder course. The approved asphaltic concrete binder course shall be delivered to site by tipper trucks. To prevent the loss of heat, the mixture shall covered by tarpaulin. The temperature of asphaltic concrete shall be not less than 120°C. Rolling shall not be continued when the temperature of asphaltic concrete has decreased to 80°C or lower. The asphaltic concrete binder course shall be laid by @ paver in single layer. The thickness shall be conform to the specification required, Compaction shall be carried out using the specified equivalent type of compactors. Rolling shall always commence from the lower to the higher side of the carriageway. In any areas inaccessible to the rollers, proper compaction shail be cried out using vibrating plate compactors or other suitable means. ‘The surface of asphaltic concrete binder course shall be finished to the line and grade as required by the Drawings (if any) or to the specification. 6.7 Asphaltic Concrete Wearing Course, AC 14 67.1 672 67.3.1 67.3.2 Ref No, : SGVMSE-TED-MST-01.02, ‘AC 14 mix will follow the approved design mix and trial mix. ‘The aggregates shall be surface dry and shall be mixed at an appropriate temperature. Rolling shall always commence from the lower to the higher side of the carriageway.In any areas inaccessible to the rollers, proper ‘compaction shall be cried out using vibrating plate compactors or other suitable means, The surface of asphaltic concrete wearing course shall be finished to the line and grade as required by the Drawings (if any) or to the specification Clause 4.5.2 JKR/SPJ/2008-S4, Key joint shall be milled as shown in the following diagram. | 2 TL A kelew uanevere jon) = — | Wi | SAFWA GLOBAL VENTURE (M) SDN BHD METHOD STATEMENT PAVEMENT - RECONSTRUCTION 6.7.3.2 Upon completion of laying and compaction, joint survey shall be carried ‘out to check for compliance with the specified requirement. 6.7.3.10 After all the above works is completed, the supervisor is to ensure that the site is to be tidied up and all excess materials are to be discarded away from the site. 68 Transporting 68.1 Bituminous materials shall be transported in clean vehicles and shall be covered over when in transit or awaiting tipping. 6.8.2 Every precaution is to be taken to avoid segregation of mixed materials and to ensure that they do not become contaminated with foreign matter. 6.8.3 In order to maintain satisfactory temperatures of materials in transit and to prevent undue loss of heat adequate precautions are to be taken to ensure that the materials are properly protected. 69 Laying 6.9.1 The mixed materials shall, as soon as possible after arrival at the laying site, be supplied continuously to the paver and laid without delay. 6.9.2 Wherever practicable, road pavement materials having bitumen as the binder shall be spread, leveled and tamped by approved self-propelled pavers capable of laying to the required width, profile, camber or cross fall. 69.3 Immediately after any course is placed and before rolling is started, the surface shall be checked and all defects and irregularities in alignment, grade or texture corrected by the additional or removal of mixture. 6.10 Compaction 6.10.1 The compaction shall be compacted as soon as possible as rolling can be effected without causing undue displacement of the mixed material, ‘Compaction shall follow the rolling pattern established during the trial lay. | Revision No. : 00 | Ret No.: SGVMSB-TED-MST-O1-62 —_———__— | Revision Date 01.10.2020 4 SAFWA GLOBAL VENTURE (M) SDN BHD Meimetance | METHOD STATEMENT _ PAVEMENT - RECONSTRUCTION 6.10.2 The rollers shall be fitted with beeper. 6.10.3 The materials shall be rolled in longitudinal direction fram the sides to the centre of the carriageway. 6.10.4 For compaction, two times rolls pass by non-vibrate compactor prior to two times rolls pass by vibrate compactor. The tandem roller weight is in the range 8 to 10 tonnes. 6.10.5 The pneumatic tyred roller shall be blasted to an operation weight of not less than 15 tonnes. Eight times rolls pass compaction shall be carried out by tyre roller. 6.10.6 The last compaction shall be done by non-vibrate compactor. 6.10.7 Compaction of the asphalt shall commence as soon as possible after laying and in strict accordance to the specification. The sequence of compaction by the compaction plant shall adhere to the methods adopted from the trial compaction to achieve the required compacted density. 7.0 QUALITY CONTROL 7.1 Sub Grade / Road Base Layer 7.1.1 Materials used in the preparation of formation shall be approved material as per specifications. Materials shall be checked through sampling. 7.1.2 Degree of compaction not less than 95% of the maximum dry density determined in the JKR/SPJ/2008-S4. One test per 500 sq metre of each layer laid 7.1.3. The compaction shall be checked by field density test and must attain the minimum relative compaction as required by the specifications. 7.1.4 CBR value must be achieved as per required design (if have design Fequirement to follow), 7.1.5 Testing for subgrade layer is Field Density Test by Sand Replacement Method or Core Cutter Method, I Ref No, : SGUMSB-TED-MST.O1.02 72 73 a Wj | SAFWA GLOBAL VENTURE (M) SDN BHD METHOD STATEMENT PAVEMENT - RECONSTRUCTION | 7.1.6 Machinery used for compaction is Vibro Roller with operating weight is 18 MT. 7.1.7 Site inspection and verification of work quality and quantities is done together with OE, subcontractor and appointed consultant, Binder / Wearing Course Layer 7.2.1 Remove all debris from site. Site shall be neat and tidy before laying of premix. 7.2.2 The paver shall be operated continuously as far as is practicable with continuous supply. 7.2.3. Compaction of the asphalt shall commence as soon as possible after laying and in strict accordance to the specification. The sequence of compaction by the compaction plant shalll adhere to the methods adopted from the trial compaction to achieve the required compacted density of 98 — 100% (Wearing course) and 95-10% (Binder course). 7.2.4 Coring sample to determine the compacted layer thickness and compacted density of binder and wearing course shall be taken. One (1) sample per 500 sq.m of mix laid, but not less than three (3) samples for the work completed in each paving session. 7.2.5 The binder and wearing course shall confirm to the specification for the thickness tolerance. 7.26 The wearing shall not be opened to any traffic within 6 hours from commencement of rolling. 7.2.7 Machinery used for compaction is tandem roller weight is in the range 8 to 10 tonnes and pneumatic tyred roller shall be blasted to an operation weight of not less than 15 tonnes. 7.28 Site inspection and verification of work quality and quantities is done together with OE, subcontractor and appointed consultant.
