    Difficulties in doing teamwork of freshman at Hanoi University

    Background of the Study


    Teamwork plays an important role in improving the mental health and social competence of
    students. Furthermore, teamwork provides students with leadership skills as well as experience
    negotiating tasks with their colleagues (Edmondson and Maguire, 2001). Teamwork is an
    important method for promoting transferable talents related to a number of career pathways
    outside of university (Bridgstock, 2009). A team may be described as a group of people who
    work together to accomplish the same objectives and priorities in order to deliver high-quality
    services. In university, teamwork has the potential to provide members of the team with a higher
    degree of social stability, self-confidence, and the capacity to prepare and make good decisions
    with others. The benefit of teamwork is substantial productivity development, which necessitates
    innovative problem-solving, adaptability, and organizational management (Vašková, 2007).
    Whereas, freshmen at Hanoi University face many problems such as disagreements and quarrels
    during group work. This case brings a problem that prevents students from reaching their full
    potential in teamwork. This research will analyze the causes that make the students difficult to
    work in a team and suggest some solutions that can overcome the difficulties.

    The problem of the Study


    The researcher discusses the “Difficulties in doing teamwork of freshman at Hanoi University”.
    The study will answer the main question: What are the difficulties and problems in student
    teamwork? & What are the suitable solutions? The following sub-questions arise from the main
    question:
    1. What is the most difficult type that encounters the students in teamwork?
    2. What are the causes of teamwork difficulty that face the students while they cooperate?
    3. What are the suitable solutions for teamwork difficulties?

    The Importance of the Study


    The researcher found that students had some difficulties and challenges working in groups on
    projects and during discussions in various courses' lectures. The following points highlight the
    significance of such research:
    1. The research formulates a list of helpful methods for students to overcome problems related to
    teamwork.
    2. The research shall highlight and focus on the causes of such difficulties and problems and find
    suitable solutions for the same.
    3. The study will attract those in charge of the importance of teamwork skills in studying and
    working effectively for freshmen at Hanoi University.

    The Objective of the Research


    The main objectives of the research of "Difficulties in doing teamwork of freshman at Hanoi
    University" are:
    - Improving and developing students' teamwork skills
    - Adopting suitable teamwork skills strategies.
    - To enable students to learn a wide range of teamwork skills, including how to problem solving,
    dialogue, cooperation and collaboration

    Limitations of the Study


    The study has two limitations:
    1. Limitation of place: The study was applied and carried out in Hanoi University
    2. Limitation of Subject: The study will deal and discuss "Difficulties in doing teamwork of
    freshman"
