Chapter I
General Description of the Business
Introduction
Tikoy is the Filipinized term for ti-ke, which means "sweet pastry" in the
Hokkien dialect. The product is referred to as "Nian Gao" in the Mandarin
Chinese dialect, which means "Year Cake" or Chinese New Year cake. One of its
other translations includes "higher year." This food is often served during New
Year in hopes to start the year with prosperity. Tikoy was later incorporated into
the culture of the Philippines, a country that is easily influenced by other
cultures.
The ingredients for Tikoy are easily acquired, so a new version of it was
created. Tikoy, in particular, can be improved by adding melted chocolate for a
much better taste. Yummy is the best way to describe this mouth-watering
Tikoy consisting of chocolate fillings; thus, this product was named YumKoy.
YumKoy was created to express gratitude and recognition for the popular
Chinese New Year delicacy, Tikoy. Yumkoy has a balanced flavor of sweetness
and sourness. This food product was also inspired by a Japanese cake, which is
like a small circular cake that can be eaten in a few bites.
Some of the special qualities of the YumKoy that would delight the
customers would be its sweetness and rich flavor deep inside brought by the
chocolate filling. The sticky yet soft texture of the YumKoy on the outside is also
one of the main highlights of this food product. These characteristics of the
YumKoy were inspired by adding together the unique features of Tikoy and
Japanese Cakes.
The product introduces unique tastes to consumers while filling their
hungry stomachs. YumKoy aims to become an affordable product, especially for
students without compromising the food’s quality. As a new product, YumKoy
aims to get the attention of the market and suit the tastes of several consumers.
YumKoy also has the goal of becoming a famous food product and possibly
becoming a staple food or snack for many Filipino consumers.
The YumKoy business will perform to the best of its abilities to produce a
food product that would satisfy the consumers. The company will make sure to
prioritize quality over quantity and make sure to serve the customers well.
Product
The product is new, unique, and a nutritious snack that suits the taste
and budget of every customer. YumKoy may look different from the usual
Chinese New Year’s cake in terms of size and shape; but the product still
possesses the typical stickiness, texture, and color of a Tikoy. YumKoy also
introduces flavors of rice cakes that did not exist before, as the product
contains lemon juice and is filled inside with dark chocolate. YumKoy’s shelf life
could last for three days at room temperature, and five days when refrigerated.
This food can be served on most occasions, especially during Christmas and
New Year, as its balanced sweetness and sourness come at an affordable price.
The food product's ability to balance the sweetness and sourness of the
ingredients into a single modern rice cake and be purchased at a low price
distinguishes YumKoy from other existing competitors. YumKoy has dark
chocolate inside that has less added sugar and fat than white chocolate and
milk. Dark chocolate is richer in flavanols, a source of important minerals, non-
dairy, and high in fiber. The product only proves that rice cake could turn into
a new, tasty, and affordable delicacy made from ingredients and equipment
found at home that will surely suit the cravings and budget of most people.
The product’s distinct taste will attract more customers to buy the
product continuously. The innovative taste and ideas offered by the business
will make people more curious about YumKoy. The product is also sold at a
reasonable price therefore, YumKoy will be able to reach a wider range of
customers from different backgrounds. YumKoy can be eaten immediately after
being served, therefore, the product is a good choice for people who are in a
hurry.
Generating stable sales right away will become challenging because the
product will just be introduced by a new firm in line with this kind of industry.
The situation will also be quite difficult if there are competitors nearby who
have been in the industry for a longer period, especially those who have been
selling pastry products and rice cakes. In response to this challenge,
competitiveness should be maintained by producing and delivering high-quality
Tikoy to the market, meeting and exceeding customer satisfaction, and
penetrating the current Tikoy market.

Technology
A body of knowledge that is devoted to creating tools, processing tasks,
and extracting resources is known as technology. Technology is a very broad
term and everyone has their way of defining this word. Technologies can be
described as products used to make life processes easier and simpler. People
use advanced technologies to surpass their limits and do different tasks more
efficiently. Technologies are present everywhere and people use them at work,
for communication, learning, scaling businesses, and many more.
Technology has a huge role in the success of every business. With
technology, processing raw materials into finished products becomes easier,
faster, and more convenient. Many businesses use technology to stay
competitive, create new products, and sell those products to people. In making
the YumKoy, technologies, and appliances that are easy to operate.
As a starting food business, the technologies that will be used will only
be those that are available within the area to save money and lessen expenses.
The company will invest more in acquiring new technologies to help the staff
produce the product especially when the business gets big in the future. Using
different technologies in business will help lessen the pressure on our workers
and allow the company to create larger portions of YumKoy more conveniently.
With this, the demands of the customers will be met easily.
Chapter II
Marketing Environment
Political Forces
There are a lot of political factors that affect a business such as different
policies, rules, and laws being implemented by the government. The company
will operate the business in accordance with the laws and protocols of the
country before the commencement of operation. YumKoy needs to be aware of
the upcoming legislation that could affect the business activities for it will help
the business prepare beforehand and make some adjustments to avoid any
loss. A particular example of how political forces affect the product would be
how the tax rate affects the product price. As the tax increases, the prices of the
YumKoy ingredients also increase, thus, the company will take into
consideration the existing political forces that will affect the success of the
business.

Technological Forces
Many processes have become easier to accomplish because of the
existence of several technologies in society. Every business relies on technology
to make the production process more efficient in the present. Many companies
and businesses also have grown bigger with the proper utilization of different
existing technologies. The YumKoy business will be using different electric
appliances in making the product. The business will also make use of different
social media platforms to reach the target customers and introduce YumKoy.

Economic Forces
Several economic factors are vital in determining the success of the
YumKoy business such as the cost of borrowing money, tax rates, political
actions, legislation, and policies. These variables affect the investment value
even though they are not directly related to the company. All significant
economic developments that can help or hinder a company in reaching its goal
are considered economic factors that affect business. Consumer behavior, labor
market conditions, interest rates, and inflation are frequently concluded.

Social Forces
People’s opinions and interests are commonly influenced by the people
around them and the situation in society. Social forces affect the needs of the
customers, so it greatly impacts the sales and revenue earned by a business.
These social factors that affect consumer behavior include lifestyle, religion,
tradition, buying habits, social classes, and many others.
YumKoy will consider social factors like the current trends in society and
the spending behavior of consumers because these are some of the things that
will affect the sales and success of the business. The most common ways of
selling the product like the online and the traditional way will also be
considered depending on the preference of the consumers.
Businesses and organizations should be able to offer a product that will
complement people’s lifestyles and behavior. A business not trying to adjust to
the trends might get left out and might lose potential customers, therefore,
YumKoy will carefully study the trends and behaviors of the current market

Legal Forces
Copyright will be used to grant the seller the right to reproduce the work
for a set period, and the trademark will be used in the name, symbol, tagline, or
character associated with the YumKoy, preventing others from using the same
symbols to sell their products. This will be done to the YumKoy business's
intellectual property. Contracts will also be used, which can either be formal or
informal agreements. Entrepreneurs should use written contracts whenever
they would enter into a significant transaction with another party. Torts are a
potential source of risk for business owners. A financial liability is frequently
the result of risk assumption and exposure; thus, this is an important issue for
entrepreneurs to manage.
The YumKoy booth will only be located on school grounds, so approval
from the subject teacher and a permit from the principal will be required.
Environmental Forces
YumKoy packaging materials are made of useful recyclables, which are
one of the easiest to craft and most environmentally effective materials to
recycle. This are can be used again, usually after processing. Recycling
packaging saves raw materials, and manufacturing energy, and reduces
greenhouse gas emissions. Being able to recycle packaging has also enabled our
society to generate economic activity and new industrial infrastructure in its
wake.

Competitors
The competitors of the company are the small businesses that offer
similar food products to YumKoy. The business’ competitors include those that
sell Tikoy. The idea of YumKoy was inspired by Tikoy, therefore, the two
products share similar characteristics such as their texture and sweetness.
These similarities might affect the sales and might lessen the possible
consumers of YumKoy. Another business competitor of YumKoy would be
businesses that offer Japanese Cakes. The fillings and visual of the YumKoy
was also inspired by Japanese Cakes. These similarities may also threaten the
sales and originality of YumKoy, thus, the YumKoy business will be very
mindful of making the product unique and innovative.

Supplies
The ingredients that will be needed for the creation of YumKoy will be
gathered and purchased at Bay Public Market. The group will negotiate with
one of the main suppliers of glutinous rice flour and lemons to be able to get a
discounted ingredient and a good-quality product. While the other ingredients
can also be purchased piecemeal in the same market, except for the dark
chocolate that will serve as the filling. The dark chocolate will be purchased
piece by piece in Dali, a convenience store at 16 Jose Rizal Avenue, Bay,
Laguna.

Industry Analysis
Tikoy originated from the Chinese as a dish served during the Chinese
New Year or Lunar New Year. The Chinese enculturated Tikoy to the Filipinos
and was eventually made as part of our own. The sales of Tikoy peak during
Chinese New Year due to beliefs. It is served for prosperity. With Tikoy being
sold everywhere during this season, people would naturally try to make their
Tikoy sell better than the others. Various marketing strategies are used such as
having unique packaging or having a distinct taste. When out of its season,
Tikoy is rarely found however, during its season, there is so much that you can
see it in almost every shop that sells food.
YumKoy is a unique variant of Tikoy because it does not follow the
conventional process of making Tikoy which gives it a distinction from common
tikoy. The pricing would fit with the current standards of pricing making it so
that the product does not become too expensive, but instead, affordable and
satisfactory to the tastes of the buyers.
The business plans to make YumKoy a popular snack not just during
Chinese New Year but also during normal days. The business aims to make
YumKoy a popular “merienda” that people will crave all the time.

A. The Threat of New Entry by New Competitors

The threat of new entrants in selling Tikoy won’t become too high
because the goal of YumKoy is to make tikoy a food that can be enjoyed even
outside of its season. The business would have a difficult time gaining approval
from the public due to being a new business with small capital.

B. The Threat of Substitute Products

There are many foods similar to Tikoy which would be a threat to the
YumKoy business. There are known names in the Tikoy industry that has a
solid foundation and a long history of selling Tikoy. Some of these known
names include “Eng Bee Tin”, “Hap Chan”, and “Sweet Taste Tikoy”. People
would likely prefer a Tikoy shop that has already been established.

C. Bargaining Power of Buyers/Customers

The bargaining power of customers would be low because YumKoy is sold
at a reasonable price that will be satisfactory in this day and age. Customers
will probably not bargain anymore since YumKoy is designed to be a cost-
friendly snack. The customers won’t also deem the product to be too expensive
because YumKoy will be sold in just small sizes.

D. Bargaining Power of Suppliers

Suppliers for the YumKoy business would have low bargaining power
since these people sell products at their usual market price. The business’
suppliers also have many competitors in the area which would contribute to
making sure that the prices that would be offered won’t be exorbitant.

E. Rivalry Among Existing Competitors

YumKoy business is new to the market which would make the product
have difficulties in gaining standing in the market, unlike other competitors.
The business would constantly be improving the product to cater to the
customers’ tastes to gain a standing in the market. Business strategies will be
improved and adjusted with the customer’s liking in mind. These strategies
would help gain advantages against competitors.

PRODUCT ANALYSIS
The product name YumKoy is thought of as a way of telling the whole
composition and description of the product in a more creative way, which
means Yummy Tikoy. Simple but creative, the product name was made to
inform and catch the eyes of anyone who read it. The product logo is the visual
representation of how the business name should and would be presented.
YumKoy offers unique delicacies with a taste that is very dear to
Filipinos. YumKoy is dark chocolate-filled on the inside and has a balanced
flavor of sweetness and sourness, with a small circular appearance. The
product aims to present customers with a different kind of experience as well as
a new way of looking at the new version of Tikoy.
The YumKoy features two delicacies from different parts of the world and
combines them into one amazing burst of flavor, offering two flavors in one.
Floppy on the outside and sticky on the inside. The product has dark chocolate
that will serve as its filling to add something unique and a creative way of
distinguishing a new flavor.
There will be two types of packaging for the product. The first type of
packaging will only consist of a kraft brown paper bag to enable the customers
to easily enjoy the food. This type of packaging will only be available through
the use of a per-piece purchasing method, together with a business logo and
the product name.
The other packaging of the YumKoy will be like the other packaging ideas
for their takeout meal. A rectangular cardboard box as the base cover with a
ribbon, the business logo, and the name of the product. This type of packaging
will only be available through the use of a bundle purchasing method.
The shelf life of the product itself proves to be a limitation to the product
and the customers as well. The product availability on the market during
certain seasons can also factor into this. The product may contain some
unhealthy components because of the dark chocolate filling.
The company considered buying the necessary ingredients within the
vicinity of Bay, Laguna, in order to ensure the freshness of YumKoy. The main
ingredients, such as glutinous rice flour, eggs, vanilla extract, lemons, sugar,
butter, and dark chocolate, can be found and are very common within the
public market.

Place
The area and location where the business will take place have a large
impact on sales, therefore the business will be placed in an area where
consumers can easily see the store or booth. The company will also consider
different factors such as the attractiveness, cleanliness, and nearness of the
place to the target consumers in choosing where the business would take place.
The company will build a YumKoy booth that will be located in San
Antonio Bay, Laguna, at the Senior High School Department of Nicolas L.
Galvez Memorial Integrated National High School because it is the place where
the teachers and students are typically gathered. The target consumers of the
business may be senior high school students but other students, staff, and
teachers outside the senior high school department can still be considered
product consumers.
There is a noticeable wide field of rice that can be found along San
Antonio Street, near the Senior High School Department and this view will be
an added factor that would help attract the attention of several consumers to
visit the booth and eventually buy the product. The goal of the company which
is having large sales can be done with the strength of the customer flow.

Distribution Channels
The process through which the YumKoy product will be distributed is
Channel 3, also known as the Direct Channel. In this kind of distribution
channel, the product will be directly sold by the seller to the consumer after it is
produced. The seller will also manufacture the product with manpower and
machinery and sell it directly to consumers.

Seller Consumer

PROMOTION
The promotions that will be used in promoting YumKoy are personal
selling, direct marketing, advertising, and digital marketing. These methods will
be utilized by the order to reach out to the potential customers of the product
and encourage people to buy YumKoy. The product will also be introduced to
the consumers by informing them what kind of food YumKoy is and where this
product will be available.

Marketing Programs
Marketing is very significant in terms of business because they affect
every step and process the business takes. These programs help the product be
known and promoted in the markets. Marketing programs also create a huge
opportunity for the product to make its name in this industry. Being a new
company, only a small number of people are familiar with and aware of the
product. The company will put together a program that might spread
widespread public awareness to achieve the goals of the business. The business
will use wide-ranging online promotions like Facebook pages, and Instagram to
attract and catch the attention of the people so the consumers would know
what kind of product YumKoy is. The internet will be a very efficient tool for
promoting a product because most people are spending their time on their
phones watching videos, playing games, posting, shopping, and even ordering
food. Several social media platforms also make having advertisements on the
internet possible, boosting engagement with potential customers.
The media that the YumKoy business will use to meet the advertising
objectives are the following:

1. Advertising Programs
A promotional activity called advertising seeks to promote a product to
certain consumers. Advertising programs aim to persuade the target market
and also inform the consumers about a certain product. The purpose of this
advertising program is to increase public awareness and knowledge through
informative advertisements. The company has different tactics to promote
the product.
 Advertising on Social Media Websites
Social media advertising is a type of digital marketing that utilizes social
networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Social media
advertisements are a quick and effective way to connect with consumers and
boost the marketing campaigns of a business. Advertising YumKoy using
different social media websites is a great way to engage with customers as
well as attract new ones. Using social media will help the business build
brand awareness, increase the customer base, and show appreciation to
current customers.

 Advertising in Food Magazines

Magazines are a great source of information and entertainment. People
who are regular magazine readers tend to be the most informed about the
world. The subject matter of magazines varies as much as the world.
Magazine advertising refers to print ads that appear in magazines. Magazine
advertising utilizes print to convey the business' product. The magazines
include pictures of the product and minimal information about it. Organized
information and high-quality pictures will grab the target audience's
attention and persuade other people to buy the product.

2. Sales Promotion

encourage people to buy a product. These activities result in a positive effect
on product awareness, customer satisfaction, and revenue. An increase in
sales and revenues is observed when running a sales promotion. Many
people also start to become loyal to the business when the promotion is
done properly. Sales promotion also allows the business to gain valuable
insights regarding the desires and opinions of the customers.
The YumKoy business is going to use consumer-oriented promotional
tools in attracting customers. As a new business in the industry, the
YumKoy business hopes to communicate the new food product to the people
through sales promotion. The product aims to become a familiar food to
people through better communication opportunities. The promotional tools
that the YumKoy business will use are the following:
 Free samples to the public
The YumKoy business will attract consumers by giving them free
samples of the product. Many people will be encouraged to try the product
by doing this. Giving free samples to the public not only lets the people
know about what YumKoy is, but the method also increases the possibility
of having higher revenues. The limited free samples will only be given on the
first day of the opening of the YumKoy business. The first few customers to
arrive at the YumKoy booth will have the privilege of getting free samples of
the product.

 Discounts
Every customer purchases only products with good deals and from those
where they will surely benefit. The YumKoy business, aside from giving free
samples, will also give discounts only to the product’s loyal customers. The
business will be giving a 5% discount to the loyal customers of YumKoy as
an appreciation for their trust and love for the product.

CHAPTER VII
RECOMMENDATION
The creation of the company’s product is successful. YumKoy has the
taste of Tikoy together with the appearance of a Japanese Cake. The group
shared the finished product with their respective families for some feedback
about the product. Thankfully, the feedbacks were good but of course, the
product is still far from perfect and YumKoy still needs some improvements.
The shelf life of the product is a little short and YumKoy is still lacking in
aroma. The efficiency in making the product is still low so the company still
needs to improve regarding technical skills.
YumKoy is still in its early stages which is why the company doesn't dare
to raise the price yet. Once YumKoy improves drastically, the quality will be
taken to a new and higher level and the price can be increased as well.
