The document provides tips for answering networking case study questions such as placing the server in the building with the most computers, using a star topology with the shortest cable runs and no loops to connect buildings, positioning hubs/switches in each building and repeaters between distant buildings, and selecting the optimal internet connection based on speed, cost, distance and terrain.

TIPS TO SOLVE NETWORKING CASE STUDY QUESTION
1. Name the most suitable wing/bldg where the server
could be installed. Server to be placed in the wing/bldg. where there is maximum no. of computers. 2. Draw the cable layout Use star topology Or Use the 80-20 rule(connect the bldgs having shortest distance. For N bldgs N-1 wires are required. No loops. 3. Suggest the placement of networking devices Hub/switch : in all bldgs/wings to connect all computers Repeaters: in between bldgs/wings where distance is greater than 70 to 100m to regenerate signals Modem(for connecting to internet): should be installed where the server is placed. Firewall(hardware/software):A network security device to prevent unauthorised access to or from the network. 4. Which communication medium or Internet connecting technology is used for connecting offices. Compromise with cost Not Compromise with speed Not with speed with cost Cable connection possible Cable connection possible (Optical Fibre) Dial-up or Broad band Cable connection not possible Cable connection not possible Hilly area, long distance etc Hilly area, long distance etc Satellite communication Radio wave communication
