Here's the data on the VietMinh Army for 1953 Indochina for you to paint.

The figs are all Pendraken. You are essentially dealing with 3 battalions plus support equipment -
2 battalions of VM regulars and one of local force troops as they called them. The regulars are
fairly uniform with some variety in headgear (see below), while the local force are a hodgepodge
of local dress and some pieces of French and Viet military kit.

Headgear: Most Regs. have the standard Viet helmet with tufts of cloth on them, some are
without the cammo cloth. You'll notice some odd looking helmets, they are WW2 Japanese (yup,
used by the Viets). Then there are some boonie hats and bareheaded troops as well as one pose
in straw coolie hats.

Weapons:
. most of the troops are carrying Chinese SMGs or rifles, . one of the two kneeling poses is
carrying the French MAT SMG, . the two LMG poses (one kneeling and one lying down) are
Czech and look exactly like a Bren, but with a straight magazine.
. the engineers are carrying either satchel charges or Bangalore torpedoes (grayish black in both
cases).
. HMGs are the Japanese style rigid belt type.
. recoilless rifles and heavy mortars may be a bit delicate to put together - I have included photos
for ease of reference.

Webbing is always lighter than the uniform and light khaki (even for the local forces).

Figure poses are pretty self explanatory except the two kneeling poses I mentioned above. There
is also a pose of a reg. force soldier throwing a grenade with his right hand, not to be confused
with the officer/NCO carrying a pistol in right hand.

Basing:

. 30 x 20mm bases (instead of the standard bases) - command bases scaled down accordingly
please.
. There's a small number of separate LMG teams - these should be based as snipers for flexibility
please.
. For base colour I have included some pics taken by my buddies who served in Nam with the
Aussies. We can discuss further at your convenience.
I really like the shrubs and bushes on your basing, I think I need more patches of grass and
slightly redder/brown soil.

I have bagged the figs in their battalion and company structures, with details written on the plastic
bags. St. = stand. Most infantry are four figs to a stand, or 1 RR, HMG, Mortar, Bazooka and
crew. Remember that LMG teams need to be on smaller sniper type bases.

Content of the army:

Batt HQ 4 figs 1 stand

Do not hesitate to e-mail me with queries. I imagine base colours may give you some pause for
thought. Also let me know if the non-standard base sizes are an issue for you. This is going to be
a bit of a collector army for me as I have been waiting a long time to do this, so I'm more
interested in getting it right and good rather than fast :-)

The French will follow as more castings become available. I will start with vehicles as they all
exist, then we'll move on to Foreign Legion paras, Moroccan, viet and local catholic militia.

There's a bunch of gamers waiting to see how these will turn out, so there's a possibility you'll
have to put up with some more requests from Brussels.
