The document is a sample report from a student enrolled in the B.Tech program at Vallurupalli Nageswara Rao Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology. It contains the student's responses to questions about Unit 1 of the Fluid Mechanics course. The questions assess the student's understanding of key concepts covered in the unit, such as the properties of fluids, fluid statics, pressure measurements, and hydrostatic force. The student provides a summary of important ideas learned from the unit and evaluates how well applications helped explain the topics. An additional example of a car engine is given to demonstrate understanding of fluid properties and their role in engine operations.

Question 1. What did you learn from this unit?
1. Difference between fluid and solid
2. Definition and significance of different fluid properties
3. Quantitative determination of fluid properties
4. Types of manometers and measurement of pressures using different types of manometers
5. Hydrostatic pressure and its calculation
6. Buoyancy and its significance
Question 2: Was the application illustrated clear for your understanding of the topics covered in this unit?
(Explain in few words)
The water distribution system used to explain the importance and application of the concepts learn in this
unit was helpful. The additional illustrations were easier to understand the different fluid properties.
Question 3: Identify and explain an additional/new application to illustrate your understanding of the
topics covered in this unit.

The petrol engine used in most vehicles can be used as a new example to explain the
concepts learnt in this unit. An automobile engine has various fluids both in liquid and
gaseous state flowing through it. The densities of these fluids vary due to the
combustion. Also, the viscosity of the lubricant used in the engine plays a vital role in
the reduction of friction and hence increases the efficiency of the system.
