Project Dec40053 Dis2019

The document describes a mini project assignment for an Embedded Systems Applications course. Students will form groups of up to 4 members and choose from one of 5 smart home systems to develop: security, lighting, watering, storage, or cleaning. The project involves developing a proposal and report that includes a circuit diagram, code, and simulation of the system. Students have 3 weeks to complete the proposal and 3 additional weeks to finish the full project report. The proposal and report will be graded based on various criteria including the demonstration of mechanisms, psychomotor abilities, and affective skills.

DEC40053– EMBEDDED SYSTEM APPLICATIONS

MINI PROJECT

Description & Instruction

Form a group max to 4 students and choose ONE project title as listed below:

a. Smart house security system.

b. Smart house lighting system.
c. Smart house watering system.
d. Smart house storage system.
e. Smart house cleaning system.

A smart house refers to a modern home that have appliances, lighting and or electronic devices that can
be controlled remotely by the owner. The system is designed by the help of a real-time embedded system
application which applies internal features such as input/output port, timer, analog to digital converter
(ADC), pulse width modulation (PWM) and USART available in a microcontroller. Based on the internal
features listed above, each group needs to prepare

i. a proposal; and
ii. develop a mini project (written report),

based on guidelines below:

Proposal [CLO1, PLO4, CLS2, C4]

[CLO4, PLO11, CLS4, A4]
Title Choose a project title from the list
Introduction Discuss the function of chosen internal features
Objectives Determine the input and output devices used in the project (must a
combination of digital and analog devices)
Scope Select the input and output pin/ port for the devices
Project Management Manage the activities and the time duration for the project to be
completed within 3 weeks by using a Gantt chart format
Financial Management Identify, analyses, retrieve and develop financial information resources,
financial plan and costing for the project.
Project Report [CLO2, PLO3, CLS2, C6]

Management project to be completed within 3 weeks by using a
Gantt chart format
Financial Identify, analyses, retrieve and develop financial
Management information resources, financial plan and costing for
the project.
Methodology Illustrate the project operation in a flowchart
diagram.
Write the program source code using any platform
such as MPLab IDE, microC, CCSCcompiler
etc.
Result Sketch the circuit diagram using related software
such as PROTEUS etc.

Describe the project operation (output) based on the

source code and the circuit

Project Development Duration

The duration of the project development will be in 3 weeks’ time. The proposal should be submitted on
Week 9 and the full project report should be submitted 3 weeks after which is Week 12 of the semester.
Project Mark Allocation & Rubrics
The mark allocation and rubrics are stated at the assessment cover for reference.
