Technology as the Genocide of Students’ Creativity

Technology as a branch of knowledge dealing with engineering and applied sciences has
evolved to its peak over the last thirty years. Technology is such a phenomenon that can
transform the technology itself. Our life has been taken to the next level since we have been
blessed with one of its finest innovations ‘mobile phone’ which has completely invaded the
traditional communication system which is metaphorically conceived as an ant-walk. Our
movement has been narrowed down while demands have been widened and easily filled up
since we are used to remaining in the four-wall-boundary surfing the whole world around on
a little screen. Furthermore, technology has left no stones unturned. We all are robustly
influenced by it.
Technology has eased our life to some extent more than ever before. The way
our ancestors used to write to their loved ones and the duration it would take to reach the
message, has been turned timely with the arrival of the mobile phone. The phone has enabled
one-click, send, and receive. No one has to wait for a year or a month or even a fortnight.
Today everyone is carrying and moving with worldly news and information in their pocket.
In addition, we can get any information on our palm that we desire as per our needs and
interest on the go.
Besides all the aforementioned advancements in human life, mobile phone
technology has deployed the genocidal catalysts that vandalize the students’ creativity when
they are keenly dependent upon the internet which is established with the mobile phone
technology. When they get any dilemmatic problems during their studies, they frequently use
a mobile phone to cope with the problems by searching over the internet which is bent on
hindering their creative skills that is straightly ‘the genocide of their creativity.’
Most of the students in their studies are reluctant to perform creative tasks relying
on the cheap second-hand notes widely available on the internet. Along with this, they waste
their productive time swamping in realistic virtual games like PUBG, Free Fire, and Call of
Duty made up of modern technology which is likely to intrude on their critical thinking aspects
shaping ADHP (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and suicidality, self-harm and
aggressive behavior as reported on pubmet.org by Shweta Sunil, the co-founder of Maathr (an
initiative for mental health research in India).
Obviously, our students are the pillars for the future development of the nation who
are seriously suffering due to the improper exploitation of mobile phone technology. To assure

national development along with the advancement in their positive and creative thinking
embracing modern technology, the proper utilization of mobile phones must be considered.
For that, both respective schools and their guardians can impose them to imply the ideas
pointed below;

 Learning with games

Whenever the students get spare time, they tend to use their phones. In this case, they
need to be encouraged as plenty of knowledgeable games like Kahoot!, Quizizz, and
Quizlet Live are available over the internet which can contribute to developing their
cognitive skills.

 Engaging and learning during home

As a class completes, teachers can ask the students to create manipulatives (objects
designed to demonstrate logical/mathematical concepts) and share them with each other
when they are at home.

 Engaging and learning virtually

Students need to have been familiarized with the online virtual classes offered by
Google, Microsoft, and others where they can learn remotely and timelessly with the
help of a mobile phone connected to the internet. The learning materials and
assignments should be provided seasonably by their teachers.

 Developing self-reliance, self-reflection, and responsibility

When the learners are reliant on one’s own powers and resources rather than those of
others, they are less likely to rely on second-hand notes. Similarly, when they are
enabled to discover their individual ways of learning they can do things creatively and
they should have been made responsible for their own learning which can foster critical
thinking. The teacher can provide them with interesting and useful reading exposures
and tasks along with adequate reinforcements.

 Prohibition of mobile phones

The minor age of students who are not expected to use the mobile phone, must be
prohibited from using it. To maintain distance in between, the teachers can introduce

them to different fun games and the parents can engage their children in those games at
their home.
For a better output of students’ creative skills, there are vital roles of both teacher and
guardian. They need to monitor the students properly. For that, the teacher can introduce them
to the different ideas for the proper utilization of mobile phones at school while the parents
can verify their children if they are using the device with a purposeful objective.
Everything is naturally equipped with both good and bad aspects, and so does the
technology hold. If we are not acquainted with the proper use of technology, it is not sure to
bring any positive change. The inadequate employment of technology can either lead a nation
towards a future crisis like the burning fire between the countries; Ukraine and Russia, or the
genocide of students’ creative skills shaping ADHP (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
and suicidality, self-harm, and aggressive behaviors.
