DSPC Guidelines

2022 DIVISION SCHOOLS PRESS CONFERENCE (DSPC)

GENERAL GUIDELINES IN SELECTING THE WINNERS IN THE INDIVIDUAL


AND GROUP CONTESTS

1. Only the official participants from each school shall be allowed in the contest venue.
2. Three (3) winners in both individual categories and group categories per medium -English
and Filipino- shall be recognized after the speaker/evaluator has submitted the contest
results to the technical working group.
3. Only the CHAMPION shall advance to the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).
4. All recognized winners shall be awarded a certificate.
5. THE DECISION OF THE SPEAKERS/EVALUATORS IS FINAL AND IRREVOCABLE.

GUIDELINES FOR THE INDIVIDUAL WRITING CONTEST

A. News, Feature, Editorial, Column , and Science and Technology Writing


Fact sheets or other sources of information shall be provided to the participants as bases in
writing the articles.
B. Sports Writing
1. The speaker/evaluator shall orient the participants before the contest proper.
2. Participants shall watch a recorded live streaming or highlights of a game to gather
data.
3. The speaker/evaluator shall give the final instructions for the post-game conference.
C. Copyreading and Headline Writing
1. The participants shall use pencil no. 2 for the contest.
2. The participants shall use the Associated Press (AP) editing marks and shall follow the
directions given in the contest piece.
3. The participants shall provide two (2) best headlines for the article.
D. Editorial Cartooning
1. The participants shall use oslo paper and pencil no. 2 for the contest.
2. The cartoon must reflect the elements of editorial cartooning.
3. The cartoon should be at all times compliant to the professional and ethical standards of
media.
E. Photojournalism
1. The participants should be in the contest venue 30 minutes before the orientation on
the guidelines and rubrics.
2. The participants shall use any digital camera (point and shoot only) with a maximum of
24.3 megapixels with fixed lenses only.
3. The speaker/evaluator shall examine the camera and the memory card.
4. DSLR camera, cellular phones, extra digital camera and extra storage card are NOT
ALLOWED in the contest area.
5. The participants shall be given one hour to shoot pictures.
6. The participants are allowed to take unlimited shots but are only allowed to submit the
best five (5) possible photos with caption for the given theme.
7. The participants shall only retain in the memory card the five (5) best photos to be
submitted after the allotted time.
8. Advisers, trainers and parents are not allowed in the contest venue during the duration
of the competition.
9. The decision of the speakers/evaluators is final and irrevocable.

GUIDELINES FOR THE GROUP CONTESTS

1. All group contests such as radio scriptwriting and broadcasting, collaborative desktop
publishing, TV scriptwriting and broadcasting, and online publishing shall have a team of
five members.
2. All the participants shall attend a one-hour orientation before the actual competition.
3. Once the contest has started, the participants are no longer allowed to communicate
with their advisers in all forms until the end of the contest.
4. For TV Scriptwriting and Broadcasting Contest
a. A post-production output instead of a live broadcast shall be evaluated.
b. The participants shall provide a working flash drive for their recorded broadcast.
They shall also bring their own equipment and paraphernalia.
c. The participants shall be given five (5) hours and 30 minutes for the actual activities
including the submission of script (within the first 2 hours) and of flash drives to the
facilitators. The facilitators shall be responsible in uploading all the entries to the
Google drive.
d. Those who will fail to comply within the given time shall not be considered anymore.
5. For Radio Scriptwriting and Broadcasting Contest
a. Only the participants whose scripts are in the Top10 shall broadcast.
b. The participants shall be given a total of three hours for scriptwriting including the
printing of scripts.
c. Each team shall bring three (3) laptops, a printer, an extension, bond papers (A4)
and a stapler.
d. After all the scripts have been submitted, the participants shall wait for two (2)
hours until the announcement of the Top 10 best scripts.
6. For Collaborative Desktop Publishing Contest
a. The participants shall watch videos as bases for writing editorial, feature, news and
sports articles. The photojournalists shall take pictures as instructed by the
speaker/evaluator and the cartoonists shall produce the editorial cartoon while the
rest of the team is doing write- ups, lay outing and editing.
b. The team shall be given four (4) hours for data gathering, writing,lay outing and
editing.
c. The participants shall bring their own equipment and paraphernalia – one (1) printer
with scanner, one (1) card reader, one (1) blank flash drive, a maximum of four (4)
laptops installed with IN DESIGN and Photoshop (for secondary level) and Microsoft
Publisher (for elementary level,) extension wires and A4 bond papers for their
output.
d. Mobile phones will beallowed for drawing purposes only.
e. Other electronic gadgets shall not allowed except for digital cameras and laptops
with disabled internet connection.
f. Each team will be required to convert their output into PDF and submit it to the
facilitators. The team shall submit both soft and hard copies of their entry without
any identifying marks of their school.
g. All entries shall be in an A4-size four-age full-colored pubication.
7. For Online Publishing Contest
a. The participants shall watch videos as bases for writing editorial, feature, news and
sports articles. The photojournalists shall take pictures as instructed by the
speaker/evaluator and the cartoonists shall produce the editorial cartoon while the
rest of the team is doing write- ups, lay outing and editing.
b. The team shall be given four (4) hours for data gathering, writing, lay outing and
editing after the creation of an online publication using the official platform provided
by the speaker/evaluator.
c. Specific instructions on the number of articles to be produced will be given during
the orientation.
d. The participants are required to bring one (1) scanner, at least two (2) digital
cameras, a maximum of four (4) laptops installed with Photoshop for image
enhancement, two (2) pocket wifis/wifi modems (preferably with two different
networks and extension wires.
e. The participants shall submit their URL to the assigned facilitators.
8. The decision of the speakers/evaluators is final and irrevocable.
