Activities  Working closely with stakeholders to identify issues and use data to propose solutions for effective
decision making
 Identifying and integrating relevant data sources and datasets that can be mined for insights
generation
 Preprocessing of structured and unstructured datasets and variables
 Building predictive models, machine learning algorithms and designing experiments to merge,
manage, interrogate and extract data to supply tailored reports to data stakeholders across the
organization
 Using machine learning and artificial intelligence tools and statistical techniques to produce
solutions to problems
 Designing/testing data mining models to select the most appropriate ones for use on a project
 Execute analytical experiments methodically to help solve various problems and make a true impact
across various departments and sectors
 Devise and utilize algorithms and models to mine big data stores, perform data and error analysis to
improve models, and clean and validate data for uniformity and accuracy
 Implement analytical models into production by collaborating with software developers and machine
learning engineers.
 Analyzing large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns
 Combining models through ensemble modeling
 Communicating analytic solutions to stakeholders and implement improvements as needed to operational
systems
 Maintaining clear and coherent communication, both verbal and written, to understand data needs and
report results
 Creating clear reports that tell compelling stories about data
 Presenting information using data visualization techniques
 Assessing the effectiveness of data sources and data-gathering techniques and improving data collection
methods
 Horizon scanning to ensure the team is always up to date with the latest technology, techniques and
methods
 Conducting research for the development of prototypes and proof of concepts
 Proactively searching for opportunities to use insights/datasets/code/models within and across all

BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills
and Experience Tools and Role Knowledge 
 Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial
neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks. 
 Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques: GLM/Regression, Random
Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc. 
 Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL
etc), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks) 
 Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS,
SAS etc) 
 Database architectures, data models and data schemas 
 Programing (Python, R, etc.) 
 BI and Visualization tools such as, Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, Qlik, etc. 
 Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills and attention to detail 
 Exceptional communication and presentation skills in order to explain work to people who do not
understand the mechanics behind data analysis 
 Effective listening skills in order to understand business requirements  
 Drive and resilience to try ideas, while delivering under pressure to tight deadlines

 Bachelor’s Degree holder in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Information Management,


Qualifications Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Similar.
 A minimum of 10 years professional experience, of which at least 5 should have been spent in Data
Science related roles. 
 Professional certifications that demonstrate knowledge, experience in, 
o SQL and NoSQL Databases 
o Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc 
o Python, R, Java, C++
