Note
Option "MAXFILECOUNT"
With ePS Server version 4.5.2 and higher, an additional option - "MAXFILECOUNT" - in
the settings.ini enables you to limit the number of files in directory MHDTS:
[APP]
; Maximum directory size [byte]
MAXDIRSIZE = 104857600
; Maximum "*.DTS" files in folder, additionally "*.TMP" with same
amount.
MAXFILECOUNT = 1000
The option MAXFILECOUNT is a new feature in ePS Server version 4.5.2. It is
compatible with all ePS -pl Client versions. It can be customized via Setup only in a later
version of the ePS pl Client software.
Note
The following applies to the two options "Offline mode OFF, ...":
Alarms are not buffered and are therefore lost.
Application
The "Flying HMI" feature enables you to install the ePS Network Services pl Client software
on a PC or PG which can then be connected to machines on which the software cannot be
installed directly because the HMI software version is not supported (earlier version of HMI,
for example).
Procedure
When "Flying HMI" is installed, an additional configuration program (ConfigTool.exe) is also
loaded. You must call the ConfigTool.exe program manually in order to configure and select
individual machines.
1. Install mode of ePS Network Services "Flying HMI"
You can launch ePS Network Services for the relevant HMI by clicking on "Start HMI".
Note
The OPI and MPI are the only communication interfaces supported in conjunction with the
"Flying HMI" function. Either SINUMERIK 840D/840Di or SIMATIC machines can be
connected to a PG/laptop. (It is not possible to operate a mixture of SIMATIC and
SINUMERIK 840D/84ODi on a PG/laptop).
Machines with an Ethernet connection cannot be managed by means of the "Flying HMI"
feature.
"Flying HMI" does not support 1:N operation. 1:N machines cannot be operated in "Flying
HMI" mode.
CAUTION
The user is responsible for ensuring that the HMI is started with the correct machine. If
mistakes are made in the connection, the selection or the assignment of the machine, data
from real machines can be loaded to ePS database machines with which they were not
originally connected.
NOTICE
You should not uninstall the Internet Explorer in order to avoid possible problems with the
operating system.
Procedure
The following description refers to Internet Explorer V 5.5:
1. Select the "Start Menu" on the PCU using keys <Ctrl> + <Esc>. In order to open the
"Internet Options" window, select "Settings" → "Control Panel" → "Internet Properties".
2. Open the "Security" tab, using the <TAB> and arrow keys in the upper section of the
window select the Internet symbol (the globe).
3. Then press the "Custom Level" button and press the <INPUT> key or SPACE BAR.
4. The "Security Settings" dialog box is opened in which you can set the necessary options
for handling ActiveX control elements.
The setting under "Reset to:" should be set to “Medium”.
Check and if required change the settings in the Internet Explorer as shown in the
following screenshots:
What is ActiveX?
ActiveX is a technology that allows software components to communicate with one another
in a networked environment independently of the programming language with which they
were developed. Microsoft developed ActiveX with the intention of creating a standard based
on Component-Object-Model (COM).
ActiveX is mainly used to develop interactive elements for web applications – although it can
also be used for desktop applications. ActiveX control elements can be embedded in web
pages in order to permit highly developed applications and interactive objects.
1. In order to check the settings for ActiveX scripting functions, scroll downwards and if
required adapt the following options:
2. Open the "Advanced" tab and deactivate the control box "Automatically check for IE
updates".
