Problem 1: How many different arrangements of the word PARRAMATTA


are possible?

Problem 2: If 4 Maths books are selected from 6 different Maths books and
3 English books are chosen from 5 different English books, how many
ways can the seven books be arranged on a shelf:
Problem 3: The probability of a computer memory chip being defective is
0.02. Which of the following statements is true?

a. In a shipment of 100 chips, two will be defective.

b. The expected number of defective chips in a shipment of 500 is ten.

c. In a shipment of 1000 chips, it is certain that at least one will be


defective.

d. All statements above are false.

Problem 4: As only 3 students came to attend the class today, find the
probability for exactly 4 students to attend the classes tomorrow.

Problem 5: Vehicles pass through a junction on a busy road at an average


rate of 300 per hour.

a. Find the probability that none passes in a given minute.

b. What is the expected number passing in two minutes?

c. Find the probability that this expected number actually pass through
in a given two-minute period.
Problem 6: A company makes electric motors. The probability an
electric motor is defective is 0.01. What is the probability that a
sample of 300 electric motors will contain exactly 5 defective motors?
