Q.36 Mr. Ranjan Gupta started construction of his house after his retirement. He is found of reading
books ,so he wanted to have one separate study room cum library in his house. He discussed it to
his architect. Architect designed a rectangular window surmounted by semi-circular opening in
garden facing wall. He kept perimeter of window 10 meter. Taking length and breadth of window
as x and y respectively he calculated area of the window so that maximum light and air can admit
into the room.

Based on these informations give the answer of following questions

(i) How area of the window (A) Can be expressed as function of two variables ?
(ii) How area of the window (A) Can be expressed as function of one variable?
(iii) What are the dimensions of the window calculated by architect to admit maximum light
and air into the room ?
Q.37 An organization conducted bike race under 2 different categories-boys(category-1) and
girls(category-2). Totally there were 250 participants. Among all of them finally three from
Category 1 and two from Category 2 were selected for the final race. Ravi forms two sets B and G
with these participants for his college project.Let B = {b1,b2,b3} G={g1,g2} where B represents
the set of boys selected and G the set of girls who were selected for the final race.

Give answers of the following questions to explore these sets for various types of relations and
functions
1. Ravi wishes to form all the relations possible from B to G. How many such relations are
possible? justify your answer
2. Ravi wants to find the number of injective functions from B to G. How many numbers of
injective functions are possible? justify your answer
3. Let R: B→B be defined by R = {(𝑥, 𝑦): 𝑥 and y are students of same sex}, Then check if relation
R is an equivalence relation.
Q.38 Dr Ritam is a famous doctor of his locality. From the past experience it is known that the
probabilities that he will come by train, bus, scooter or by other means of transport are
respectively 3/10, 1/5,1/10 and 2/5. The probability that he will be late are 1/4, 1/3 and 1/12 if
he comes by train, bus and scooter respectively, but if he comes by other means of transport,
then he will not be late

On the basis of above information, answer the following questions.

(i) What is the total probability of doctor arriving late?
(ii) If doctor Ritam arrives late, then find the probability that he comes by train.
