STANDARD CODE & SPECIFICATIONS FOR PPEs

Specifications
1. Must have side shields for lateral protection.
2. Eye protection for those wearing prescription lenses shall either have the prescription
incorporated into the eye protection or be large enough to be worn over the prescription
lenses without disturbing them.
3. Shall be of light weight.
4. Have style/frames to suit the wearer.
5. Those working continually on site shall have option of glasses with photo chromatic
properties to minimize glaring.
6. Tinted safety glasses must not be worn at night and in dark work places.
1. Metal hats are prohibited.
2. Helmet must include:
a) Flexible headband of adequate width and contoured both vertically and horizontally to fit
the forehead,
b) Absorbent sweatband that is easy to clean or replace,
c) Textile cradle straps,
d) Chin straps with fit around the ear, fitted with smooth, quick release buckles, which don't
dig into the skin, made from non-, irritant materials and can be stowed on helmet when not
in use.
e) Mass-400g (maximum),
f ) Marking- Trade mark of manufacturer, Size, ISI marking & Year of manufacture.
g) Test & Performance Requirements :
- Shock absorbtion resistance (against 3KG from a height of 1.5 m.),
- Penetration resistance (against a plumb of 500 g with conical steel point falling from a
height of 3 m,
- Electrical resistance against 2000V, 50 Hz for one minute,
- <5% water absorption when immersed in water for 24 hours at a temperature of 25C,
- Heat resistance in an oven at 93C-50C for 15 min,
- Sterilisation and corrosion resistance tests.
h) Size of circumference inside headband:

1. Kong Ironclad Glove for Rigging & Slinging Where practicable and depending on nature of
work, gloves shall be of designed specifically for oil & gas industry, reducing 3 biggest hand
related injuries :-

- Bruisng blows
- Pinched fingers
2. The characteristics of the gloves shall include or be equivalent to:-
- Full hand and finger protection,
- Padded knuckle protection,
- Oil resistant palm,
- Raised PVC dots for improved grip,
- Flexible with a high degree of dexterity,
- Neoprene cuff,
- High visibility and machine washable.
1. Vendors of hearing protection should provide test data/certification that stated the
hearing protection Noise Reduction Rate (NRR) capability,
2. Vendors should also specify noise limit of their products beyond which, ear protection
becomes ineffective,
3. Vendors should provide instructions on proper use of their products,
4. In general ear plugs and ear muffs are used:
-For earplugs, field noise reduction is deemed to be about 25% of NRR
-Foam earplugs about 40% of NRR
-Ear muffs, it is about 60% of NRR
5. Disposable ear plug should preferably be polyurethane foam type,
6. Use of re-usable ear plug should preferably be semi-rigid plastic or rubber and must be
easily washed.

Safety shoes shall have:


1. Ankle high
2. Steel toe caps as per IS: 5852-1996

4. Six eyelets or less in each of safety shoes,
5. Padded tongue
6. Eyelets be made of aluminium or brass coated steel of size.
7. Mass- 1750 g/pair of size 8 (maximum) with hob nails, toe tips and heel tips. 1650 g/pair
of size 8 (maximum) without hob nails, toe-tips and heel tips, The mass shall increase by
75g per pair for each bigger or smaller size respectively,
8. Be heat resistant (generally leather to provide protection against heat and sparks),

1. Full body harness means a body support device consisting of connected straps designed
to distribute a fall arresting force over at least the thigh, shoulders and pelvis,with provision
for attaching a lanyard, lifeline or other components.
2. Fall arrest system consists of a full body harness, lanyard or lanyard and shock absorber.
The lanyard is connected to an anchorage point.
