CORE VALUES, SECONDARY VALUES AND BEHAVIORAL INDICATORS

(A Guide to Living the School’s Vision and Mission)

I. FAITH

A. Piety

1. Manifests a strong sense and experience of God’s loving presence developed through
reflection and prayer (e.g. angelus, grace before and after meals, prayer before
sleeping and rising, praying the rosary, visits to the Blessed Sacrament, etc.)

2. Involves the guidance of the Holy Spirit before making critical decisions.

3. Acts reverently in church and other places of worship and prayer and cares for
religious signs and symbols with utmost respect.

4. Participates actively in liturgical activities in the spirit of adoration, thanksgiving, and


Christian fellowship.

5. Uses the name of God reverently in prayer or casual conversation; shows wholesome.
Clean and refined habits of speech and action.

B. Knowledge of the Christian Faith

1. Reads and reflects on sacred Scriptures as means of daily spiritual nourishment.

2. Seeks to understand and uphold what is righteous and just as proclaimed in Church
documents (e.g. Documents of Vatican II, PCP II documents, Papal Encyclicals, etc.)

3. Shows understanding of and support for the social teachings of the Church.

4. Pursues a Christ-centered life inspired by the incarnate love of God.

5. Seizes opportunities for Catholic evangelization and catechesis through Bible studies,
prayer meetings, retreats, recollections, Catechetical instruction, etc.
C. Humility

1. Shows a holy fear of the Lord through faithfulness to His commandments.

2. Professes utter dependence on God’s grace as the wellspring of all goodness.

3. Respects and obeys the guidance of the Church hierarchy on moral, ethical and social
issues.

4. Accepts respect, cooperation and obedience to duly designated leaders and persons in
authority.

D. Joy

1. Displays joyful confidence in God loving care.

2. Celebrates the sacraments of the Church in thanksgiving for God’s graciousness.

3. Proclaims joyfully the good that God does for and through people.

4. Gives honest praise and appreciation for the good done by others.

5. Reciprocates favors received without sacrificing professional and ethical concerns.

II. COMPASSIONATE LOVE

A. Charity

1. Manifests simplicity in one’s lifestyle.

2. Shares unconditionally and generously one’s talents, time and resources for those in
need.

3. Demonstrates utmost respect for the beneficiaries of one’s charitable works.

4. Protects the good name of others by not resorting to gossiping and rumor mongering.

5. Exercises prudence, good judgment, and self-control in receiving and giving feedback.
B. Prudence

1. Evaluates and reflects on any work done before taking further action.

2. Acts according to the dictates of a clear and well-formed conscience.

3. Respects the counsel and direction offered by proper authorities particularly on moral
and ethical issues.

4. Shows positive values and refined habits of speech and action in social interactions.

5. Respects and protects the confidentiality of privileged communication.

C. Empathy

1. Makes other persons feel valued and important.

2. Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to human misery through corporal works


of mercy.

3. Exercises thoughtful care, patience, and understanding in responding to the needs,


feelings and limitations of others.

4. Shows respect and support for those with disabilities and handicaps.

5. Uses appropriate expressions in showing solidarity with those in distress.

D. Unity

1. Contributes to the well-being of the family and helps create and maintain a family-like
climate in the school community.

2. Promotes harmonious relationships based on mutual trust and respect.

3. Exercises the spirit and ways of fraternal correction.

4. Accepts and performs responsibilities and related tasks willingly.

5. Imposes on oneself voluntarily and willingly high achievement expectations in work


and service for the good of the family, school or community.
III. JUSTICE AND PEACE

A. Integrity

1. Takes decisive action against all forms of dishonesty and unethical conduct as shown
in observing intellectual honesty, returning lost objects, correcting wrongdoing, etc.

2. Fulfill one’s obligations and promises faithfully.

3. Admits mistakes and accepts corrections for self-improvement.

4. Expresses oneself truthfully, positively and unpretentiously and inspires others to do


the same.

5. Refuse consistently to compromise truth for personal gain or to use authority and
relationships for exploitative and immoral pursuits.

B. Competence

1. Acknowledges faith in Jesus Christ as the source of human knowledge and values.

2. Shows love for assiduous learning through reflexive inquiry, research, etc.

3. Pursues high achievement standards in everything one does neatly, completely and
accurately.

4. Reflects on links between knowledge and current realities and takes appropriate action
to support transformational change.

5. Explores diverse opportunities for obtaining comprehensive information and varying


perspectives on a given issue.

C. Preferential Love for the Poor

1. Promotes concern and protection for women, children and the disadvantaged against
physical, verbal, and moral abuse.

2. Acknowledges and champions the struggles of the poor, depressed, oppressed, and
exploited for more humane existence.

3. Helps the poor become self-reliant and empowered.


4. Collaborates actively with agencies providing educational health care, and livelihood
opportunities for the poor.

5. Supports Church-initiated advocacy programs on current social, economic,


environmental, and political concerns.

D. Courage

1. Takes a courageous stand and supports the position of the Catholic Church on current
issues on morality and social justice.

2. Manifests joyful and hopeful expectations of God’s unfailing providence.

3. Takes risk in fighting the evils of apathy, complacency and cynicism.

4. Offers active support for the victims and survivors of violence, exploitation and
oppression.

5. Stays kind and friendly even when confronted with rejection, hostility or unfavorable
judgment.

IV. INTEGRITY OF CREATION

A. Discipline

1. Works responsibly without need for close supervision.

2. Shows consistency in performing tasks systematically and completely.

3. Adheres to high standards of professionalism and work ethics.

4. Shows refinement, propriety and orderliness in dealing with superiors, peers and
others.

5. Practices industry and diligence to avoid undue dependence on others.

B. Dependability
1. Makes oneself available for service where and when needed.

2. Works beyond what is expected generously, freely and voluntarily.

3. Completes tasks and solves problems in ways that benefit others.

4. Performs difficult tasks with joyful expectation of God’s loving providence and
inspires others to do likewise.

5. Remains persistent and passionate in pursuing a task or fulfilling a promise even in


the face of difficulties.

C. Love for the Environment

1. Conserves water and energy, uses, re-uses and recycles materials properly.

2. Supports actively advocacy programs for the care and protection of the environment.

3. Shows creativity and inventiveness in discovering new ways of conserving the earth’s
non-renewable resources.

4. Uses available resources judiciously, efficiently, and responsibly.

5. Keeps surroundings clean and supports practices on proper waste management.

D. Community Involvement

1. Gives generous financial support for amelioration programs for the poor.

2. Appreciates the rich cultural diversities of Filipinos and promotes the best of Filipino
customs and traditions.

3. Works to liberate self and others from the influences of mediocrity, complacency, and
cynicism.
4. Supports the building of Basic Ecclesial Christian Communities.

5. Upholds the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of Filipino citizenship
