different kinds of polynomials according to the number of
terms and the number of degree.

So again, what are the different kinds of polynomials Monomials, Binomials, Trinomials,
according to the number of terms? and Multinomials.

How about the different kinds of polynomials according to Constant, Linear, Quadratic,

E. Abstraction
Finally, we are now down to our proper discussion. By the
way, you all did great in our activity!

To evaluate an algebraic expression means to substitute


the given value of the variables. Then, simplify the resulting
numerical expression following the PEMDAS (Parenthesis,
Exponents, Multiplication/Division, Addition/Subtraction).

Let’s take a look on the video presentation that I’ll be going


to present to you which shows an example of evaluating
algebraic expression. And observe how they arrive with the
correct answer.

Example: Evaluate 𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 − 2; 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑥 = 2

Solution:
𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 − 2 = 22 + 3(2) − 2 Substitute the value of x
= 4 + 3(2) − 2 Simplify the expression
=4+6–2 Perform the multiplication
=8 Perform the operation (+,-)

Okay, so, let’s try and evaluate the following algebraic


expression:
Oral Activity 1:
If a=3, b=2, c=4, then:
1. -5a + 7b+4c
2. 40ab – 9b + c
3. 6𝑎2 + 3𝑏 − 8
The sum is equal to 15 ma’am.
Who will volunteer to answer number 1?
It is equal to 226 ma’am.

It is equal to 50 ma’am.

How much will it cost if you would like to buy 3


sandwiches and 2 mango floats?
Answer:
Given:
x = 3 sandwiches x refers to the number of sandwiches
y = 2 mango floats y refers to the no. of mango floats
Solution:
15 pesos (3 sandwiches) + 20 pesos (2 mango floats)
= 45 + 40
= 85 pesos

2. In your MAPEH subject, you are task to make a


scrapbook. You will be needing atleast 16 assorted
neon papers and 20 long bond papers in the
making.
How much will be paid if neon papers cost 3 pesos
for 2 of them and each long bond paper cost 1 peso
and seventy-five centavos?
Answer:
Given:
x = 3 pesos per 2 neon x refers to the cost of neon paper
y = 1.75 pesos y refers to the cost of each bond paper
Solution:
16 neon (3 per 2 neon) + 20 bond paper (1.75 pesos)
= 16 (3/2) + 20 (1.75)
= 48/2 + 35
= 24 + 35
= 59 pesos
