ADVOCACY WORKSHEET PLAN

Stop Sexual Assault

Have you felt like you are being forced by someone to be involved in a sexual activity?

Think of a microphone, look how it helps us. It allows our audience, even those who are
farthest from us, to hear every word we say because it carries our voice from one end of
the room to the other. Voices are important things for humans. It would be an
opportunity if victims are able to have a microphone to voice out their experiences and
struggles with sexual assault.

The goal of prevention is to thwart sexual assault before it can take place. It is possible
to establish workplaces and communities where everyone is treated equally and with
respect. To achieve this, intelligent policies, healthy relationships, and the promotion of
safe behaviors are adopted.
According to Cameleon Association Philippines, an organization advocating for
Children’s Rights and against sexual violence, about 7,000,000 children are sexually
abused every year in the Philippines.

More than 70% of sexually abused children are between 10 and 18 years old. Among
those victims, 20% are under 6 years old.

Cases of child sexual abuse are one of the most common issues that the Department of
Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has to handle after abandonment and neglect.
Despite the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, rape remains the most frequent type of sexual abuse,
followed by incest and fondling. 98% of rape victims are women. The incest percentage
is another alarming data: 33%.

Most children who are sexually exploited for commercial purposes are victims of
prostitution or pornography.

Even though the total number of child abuse cases handled by the DSWD decreased, the
number of child prostitution cases slightly increased. Most of the time, it is very difficult
to have a clear view of the situation and even harder to take action since the bars and the
prostitution and sexual tourism networks are controlled by influent politicians or people
(locals as well as foreigners) usually connected to other criminal networks (weapons,
drugs.) Likewise, while the total amount of internet pornography may seem quite low, it
could be a lot higher if the victims had pressed charges or asked for help to public
services. The same goes for child prostitution, sexual abuse and incest cases. Internet
prostitution is more and more common in the Philippines, whether it is in urban areas or
in the countryside.

With the research conducted, therefore we can conclude that there is a big percentage of
sexual assault happening in the country. With these means, we would like to give
recommendations such as:
 Create programs that addresses the issues concerning sexual assault.
 Educate the community.
 Strict implementation of laws within a community.
 Break the social norms; address that all genders can be sexually harassed.
 Implement rightful penalty.
 Implement sex education.
Sexual assault is something that we should bring attention to and find solutions for.
Sexual violence is a widespread problem. It happens in every community and affects
people of all genders and ages. Nearly one in five women and one in 71 men are victims
of rape. Even for those of us who don’t directly experience it, we are all impacted by
sexual violence because of how it affects communities and society—especially survivors
and their loved ones.

Sexual assault is a serious matter, it must not be taken lightly or as a mere joke because
there are many consequences when this happens. Always be aware and be alert with your
surroundings and to be vigilant to every person you interact with because many
perpetrators of sexual assault are someone the victim knows.
