X CLASS-Similar Triangles Constructions

This document contains instructions for constructing similar triangles with specific side ratios. It provides steps to: 1. Construct triangles with sides in ratios of 5:3 and 4:3. 2. Construct a triangle similar to a given triangle ABC, with sides that are 4/3 the length of the corresponding sides of ABC. 3. Construct a triangle similar to a given triangle ABC, with sides that are 5/3 the length of the corresponding sides of ABC. 4. Construct a triangle similar to a given triangle ABC, with sides that are 2/3 the length of the corresponding sides of ABC. 5. Construct an isosceles triangle with a base of 8cm and altitude

X CLASS – SIMILAR TRIANGLES – CONSTRUCTIONS

PREPARED BY: BALABHADRA SURESHJ

1. Draw a line segment of length 7.2 cm and divide it in the ratio 5 : 3. Measure the
two parts.
Sol: Steps of construction:
1. Draw a line segment AB=7.2 cm.
2. Draw a ray AX through A making an acute angle with AB.
3. Locate 8 points 𝐴1 , 𝐴2 , 𝐴3 , 𝐴4 , 𝐴5 , 𝐴6 , 𝐴7 , 𝐴8 on ⃗⃗⃗⃗⃗
𝐴𝑋 such that 𝐴𝐴1 = 𝐴1 𝐴2 = 𝐴2 𝐴3 =
𝐴3 𝐴4 = 𝐴4 𝐴5 = 𝐴5 𝐴6 = 𝐴6 𝐴7 = 𝐴7 𝐴8
4. Join A8 B . Now through point 𝐴5 draw a line parallel to 𝐴8 𝐵 intersecting AB at C
5. AC:BC=5:3

2. Construct a triangle ABC of sides 5cm , 6cm and 7cm .Then construct a triangle
3
similar to a given triangle ABC with its sides equal to of corresponding sides of
4

ABC
Steps of constructions:
1. Construct ABC with AB=5cm, BC=6cm and AC=7cm
2. Draw a ray BX, making an acute angle with BC on the side opposite to vertex A.
3. Locate 4 points B1, B2, B3 and B4 on BX so that BB1=B1B2=B2B3=B3B4
4. Join B4C and draw a line through B3 parallel to B4C intersecting BC at C.
5. Draw a line through C parallel to CA to intersect AB at A. So  A’ BC’ is the

required triangle

3. Construct a triangle ABC of sides 4cm,5cm and 6cm. Then construct similar
5
triangle to the given ABC, with its sides equal to of the corresponding sides of
3

the triangle ABC.

Steps of constructions:
1. Construct ABC with AB=4cm, BC=5cm and AC=6cm
2. Draw a ray BX, making an acute angle with BC on the side opposite to vertex A.
3. Locate 5 points B1, B2, B3 ,B4and B5 on BX so that BB1=B1B2=B2B3=B3B4= B4 B5
4. Join B3C and draw a line through B5 parallel to B3C intersecting extended line
BC at C.
5. Draw a line through C parallel to CA to intersect extended line AB at A.
So  A’BC’ is the required triangle

Steps of construction:
1. Construct ABC with AB=4cm, BC=5cm and AC=6cm
2. Draw a ray BX, making an acute angle with BC on the side opposite to vertex A.
3. Locate 3 points B1, B2, and B3 on BX so that BB1=B1B2=B2B3
4. Join B3C and draw a line through B2 parallel to B3C intersecting BC at C.
5. Draw a line through C parallel to CA to intersect AB at A.
So  A’ BC’ is the required triangle

5. Construct an Isosceles triangle whose base is 8cm and altitude is 4 cm. Then, draw
1
another triangle whose sides are 1 times the corresponding sides of the isosceles

triangle.

Steps of construction:
1. Draw the line segment BC=8cm (base)
2. Draw perpendicular bisector of BC, intersects BC atM.
3. Draw an arc with centre M and radius 4cm intersects PQ at A
