1) A rectangular beam with dimensions 230x600mm carrying a load of 40kN/m over an effective span of 6m is to be designed with M20 concrete and Fe415 steel. 2) A simply supported roof slab of 7.5m x 3.5m carrying a load of 5kN/m2 is to be designed using M20 concrete and Fe415 steel. 3) A dog-legged staircase with 18 steps of 300mm tread and 180mm rise, having a 1.2m wide intermediate landing in the middle and overall width of 1.2m, is to be designed and detailed with steel reinforcement using M20 concrete and Fe415 steel.

1. A rectangular beam of dimension 230X600 mm is to carry a superimposed load of
40KN/m over an effective span of 6m.Determine the tension and compression
reinforcement. Use M-20 concrete and Fe-415 steel. Effective cover 40 mm.

2. Design a simply supported roof slab for a room 7.5 m ×3.5 m clear in size. The slab is
carrying an imposed load of 5 kN/m2. Use M-20 mix and Fe415 steel.

3. A dog –legged staircase for residential flat consists of 18 steps, each of 300mm tread and
180mm rise,with an intermediate landing 1.20m width at the middle. The width of
staircase is also 1.20m. If the flights are of equal number of steps, design the staircase
and detail the steel. Take fck=20N/mm2 and fy=415 N/mm2
