PEC 1A ASSIGNMENT LESSON 3: HIGH QUALITY ASSESSMENT COMPONENTS PED 111 1. What are the latest trends in Educational Assessment? (Give at least five) The latest trends in Educational Assessment are as follows: i. Online Learning ii. Distance Learning iii. Blended Learning iv. Social-emotional Learning v. Homeschooling 2. Why is accountability and fairness important? One of the primary goals of performance-based accountability is to urge schools to prioritize improving performance over all else. Everyone who is held accountable has an incentive to guarantee that performance improves—or, at the absolute least, that it does not deteriorate. On the other hand, promoting justice in the classroom not only earns respect for the instructor, but also provides kids with a sense of safety and trust in the classroom. Creating an environment based on fairness, trust, and respect will benefit all of the students in the class. 3. Describe: a. Standard-based education – is a wide notion that refers to systems of instruction, assessment, grading, and academic reporting that are focused on students demonstrating anticipated mastery of information and abilities as they progress through their education. b. Outcomes-based education – (OBE) is education that focuses on a clearly stated understanding of what students are expected to know and be able to accomplish, that is, what skills and knowledge they must have when they leave the school system. 4. What is an Item Response theory? Discuss how is it being used in educational assessment? Item response theory (IRT) was initially introduced in the discipline of psychometrics to measure ability. It is commonly used in education to calibrate and assess questions in exams, questionnaires, and other instruments, as well as to score respondents on their talents, attitudes, or other latent characteristics.
