Report
Uber is ranked 4th on the list of most known transportation
companies with the average income of $364, earned by the Uber
driver in a month. Uber offers three types of services which
includes; UberGO, Uber Black and Uber Select.

UberGo drivers can dress however, they feel

like based on their comfort but, they must wear casual dressing. An UberGO driver needs to
ensure that, he/she presents himself very well in front of his rider. This includes dressing
casually in a fresh, clean and an honorable manner.

At the same time, the driver needs to ensure, he/she dresses in a decent and an acceptable manner
(Ippei, 2018). This is because the riders do not want to drive with someone in their pajamas and
shorts. The company gives the freedom to the driver by not giving them the dress policy. But, the
driver is required to dress in a presentable way. The UberGO driver should consider wearing: -
 The male driver is required to wear a shirt with the buttons and a collar while, he is
required to wear a slack or a slack jean. (Easterbrook, 2022)
 A female driver needs to wear a slack or a dress skirt with a t-shirt.
 In Pakistan, drivers most often wear shalwar kameez whereas, in United Kingdom drivers
most often wear a slack jean and a shirt.
 The short is not preferred in a dress code of an UberGO driver as, it is not a part of casual
dressing (Mike, 2017).
 Uber women drivers don’t wear heels. They wear shoes as, it is comfortable for them to
drive.
 The women and male driver also don’t wear a jean with rips because it doesn’t give a
good representation to the rider.
Unlike UberGO drivers, Uber Black and Uber Select drivers need to dress up more
professionally. The driver’ target customer is particularly the customer with high income
therefore, the driver is required to dress up in a professional way.

 They also offer better Uber services which includes better vehicles. These vehicles are
considered for most top rated and luxury vehicles in return for the high price. The driver of Uber
Black and Uber Select are required to dress in a good way which includes a good shirt, a nice
slack, also a good suit and even a sport jacket is included in their dress code (Ippei, 2018). Tie
and coat is optional for Uber Black and Uber Select drivers. (Uber, 2022)

However, Uber Black and Uber Select are more premium

services where, the Uber driver dresses more in a professional
way. They are relatively targeting top-class customers for their
premium services. The dress code for Uber Black and Uber
Select gives a professional and polite touch to the customers.

There is no department in the Uber company, who decides the dress policy of drivers. According
to Uber website, Uber drivers work under “the services” commands where they are given
instructions and information about how they may do their job under their contract. Due to this
reason, they don’t have a dress code. But, Uber drivers are required to dress in a clean and
honorable manner while ensuring, he/she must dress in a professional way. (Easterbrook, 2022)

The rationale behind this dress policy is that as, the Uber
driver is working in a costumer facing service industry, the
driver needs to dress appropriately which includes, a collar
shirt and khakis to give a good representation to the customers
and satisfy them with their service. It is important for the
driver to dress in a professional and modestly way because
Uber team is looking forward to build up more market share
for Uber and increase demand for their services.

A driver in Uber must respect policies and laws from Uber. There is no law in Uber company for
dress code but, Uber drivers needs to ensure, they dress in a professionally and jobwise manner.
(Woodland, 2022) Other laws include treating the rider with respect, no rude behavior and no
physical contact with the rider.

 If an Uber driver dresses inappropriately and do not meet customers’ needs then, customers can
write an email, a small note message for complain on the contact number and email, provided on
Uber online site. Also, if a driver misbehaves, you need to report on Uber site. A driver needs to
be professional in Uber as, the customers might give you tip at the end.

Uber team has introduced face covering policies for riders and drivers following, the Covid-19
restrictions by the government in United Kingdom and other countries. It is highly encouraged
for Uber drivers in England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland to follow Covid restrictions for their
safety. (UK, 2020)

Therefore, we can see face masks are taking part of a dress code in Uber since, the drivers
themselves are also considered about their protection and want to live a life of wellbeing. As a
result, we can see face masks are a temporary part of a dress code for Uber drivers which will be
brought to end, when Covid-19 finishes. The riders and an Uber driver needs to wear a mask or
they will get banned by Uber team. (Couch-Friedman, 2021)

In the beginning, Uber drivers were asked to dress in casual business clothing. But this dressing
policy have changed. As, Uber drivers are called private contractors which means, they don’t
have to meet dressing standards mentioned in their contract. They are only required to follow
casual dress code and wear a mask, following the Covid-19 restrictions.

In conclusion, there is no uniform for Uber driver. The Uber economy driver ensures, to dress in
a suitable and applicable way as, the driver goal is to offer best service to the customers.
Whereas, Uber Black and Uber Select drivers wear a suit. Uber drivers are required to meet
customers’ demands for their service. Customers can also give compliance to the Uber driver. As
a result, they can also post a good rating for the driver. (Anirban, 2022)
