Task 1. Exploring your course syllabus and other remote learning tools

Seasoned seminary students know where to find tools and resources that can
eventually help them succeed in their academic programs. One seminary
student’s indispensable resource is the course syllabus.

Find your course syllabus and download it as a PDF file. Having difficulties
with downloading? Watch this 3-minute video tutorial on how to
download a Google Doc.

After downloading your course syllabus, prepare 2–3 questions to clarify any
section in it and post your questions on this practice Jamboard.

Is it your first time to use a Jamboard? Watch this 14-minute instructional


video on how to use a Google Jamboard.

Task 2. Discovering your learning style and type of intelligence

Theories of human learning have postulated that awareness of one’s learning


style and intelligence can help develop academic learning skills.

Find out your learning styles and intelligence type by going over the
questionnaires and taking note of key information to share in class:

Guide questions:

• What’s your dominant learning style and intelligence type?


• What does the questionnaire say about it within the context of your
personal experiences with academic learning?

• Take this learning style assessment. Answer this VARK
questionnaire.
• Be ready to discuss your answers to the guide questions above.

▪ b. M.I. Assessment
• Before taking the inventory, read this brief article about Gardner’s
eight components of intelligence.
• What best describes you for each type of intelligence described in
this inventory?

Task 3. Discovering your study skills

Click on this link to the Study Skills Inventory, then complete the steps
below:

▪ Number a piece of paper from 1 to 51. Complete the inventory on pp. 1–


3 by writing your frequency scores for all items (on a scale of 5, with 5
as highest).
▪ Check your total score for each type of study skills and check the
evaluation of each score on p. 4 of the inventory.
▪ Comment on the results of your assessment and be ready to discuss it in
class. In what way(s) has the inventory helped you with your
understanding of academic study?

Task 4. Assessing your reading skills

Assess your comprehension and reading speed by reading a sample article


here: Week 1. Sample Reading Inventory Text (ESR-033).

The link to this reading text will be activated during your Week 1 class. Be
ready to go over it with the rest of your classmates.

Task 5. Understanding text structures

Watch The 5 Types of Text Structure and take note of the types described
here. Be ready to share your notes in class.

• Online tools for distance learning

Task 6. Previewing online tools for remote learning

Preview these tools by clicking on each hyperlink: Canvas, Google Docs,


BlueJeans, Jamboard, Google Slides, Google Form.

The Google links, except for the Form, will be activated for editing after the
Week 1 class, so be sure to log into your GSOT emails when working on
these.

Be ready to prepare your feedback on using each tool. How easy/difficult
