BTC200 – Intro to Information System

Career Planning Last Stage Assignment (5%)

For this assignment, please complete Career Planning Last Stage page in your ePortfolio. You
will create a video presentation and write a reflection, then post them on your ePortfolio. Please
go over the assignment below.

Introduction: Pursuing a career path in business requires an understanding of your marketability


and the ability to identify and demonstrate the skills required for your profession. For this project
you will research skills/competencies required by your career of choice and then create a video
presentation and write a reflection that demonstrates at least one of those skills.

Learning Objective: The purpose of this presentation is for students to identify and demonstrate
skills they have acquired that are specifically sought after in their career of choice through a
video presentation that includes research and reflection.

Students will be able to:

 Recognize the importance of the use of digital communications in marketing themselves


for their career
 Identify skills/competencies required for their career
 Demonstrate at least one skill/competency required by their career of choice
 Design appropriate* means of communication for their demonstration
 Assess the effectiveness of their demonstration

following Competencies are a measure of career readiness.

3. Video Presentation - Consider ways to demonstrate the particular competency in a video


presentation. Video Presentation to be posted on your ePortfolio - Career Planning Late
Stage.

Examples:

 communication skills can be demonstrated in a video that includes you delivering a


focused message, research and data.
 digital technology can be demonstrated by creating a video with varying technology
and/or teaching others how to use a specific tool
 global/intercultural fluency can be demonstrated in a video about your experience with
diversity

While one video may demonstrate multiple competencies, you will propose your intended career,
justify the competency you plan to demonstrate and how you will approach this in a video
format. See prompts below to answer in the video:

1. What career are you interested in pursuing?


2. Identify one or two competencies that you would need to achieve this potential career.
3. Support with a source and explain.
4. How will you demonstrate this in a video?

Video options:

 Make the video/audio recording of at least 90 seconds to introduce yourself to viewers,


share your choice of careers and discuss some of the competencies from NACE.
 In your video/audio recording, be sure to discuss your skills and abilities.
 Please try to minimize any background noise in your recording.
 Upload your recording file on your Career Planning Late Stage page in your ePortfolio.
4. Writing Reflection - Reflection to be posted on your ePortfolio - Career Planning Late
Stage (250 to 300 words)

Now that you are near the end of your studies at LaGuardia, reflect on steps that you will take to
strengthen your career choice and your prospects for success in your desired profession. To
facilitate your reflection, answer the questions below:

 What is the major that you have decided to pursue at a senior college? How will your
major support your prospects of finding employment after graduation? Have you decided
on a senior college where you will pursue this major?
 How can obtaining additional degrees, certifications, etc., support your growth and
success in your career choice and career goals?
 How will the skills and competencies that you have developed and/or strengthened at
LaGuardia support the knowledge and skills that your desired career choice requires?
 What are you doing outside of the classroom to support your career choice and career
goals? Examples: Attending networking events, joining professional organizations,
attending career fairs, etc.?
