Simple past
Use
It is used to express facts or states that happened in the distant or near past. In addition,
although we have already said that the period in which they take place is not significant, it
must be stated that said situation or action has ended.
In this verb tense there are some expressions that serve to create context and that clarify the
information that is presented.
You can use them at the beginning or at the end of the sentence and they will be an element
of clarity.

Past continuous
Use
The past perfect is used to refer to an action that happened in the past before another. In this
case, the first action is conjugated in the past perfect, while the second, the most recent, is
in the past simple.
It is also used to talk about an action that occurred before a specific time in the past.
It is used to talk about actions that started in the past and continued until a certain time also
in the past.
