Class 4 Week 24 Mathematics Assignment

The documents provide information about factors, prime factorization, and multiples in mathematics. They include examples and explanations of factorizing numbers into their prime factors using factor trees. They also define multiples as numbers produced when two or more numbers are multiplied, and provide properties of multiples. Worksheets provide practice problems for students to find the prime factorization of numbers and to determine if a number is a multiple of another.

PRIME FACTORIZATION

A number can be expressed as a product of its factors. This is called factorization.

When a number is expressed as a product of its prime factors, it is called prime
factorization of the number.

Eg. 8 can be expressed as 1 x 8 or 2 x 2 x 2 or 2 x 4

Prime Factorization of 8 = 2 x 2 x 2

Find the prime factorization of 40 by factor tree method.

40 40

2 x 20 or 4 x 10

2 x 10 2 x 2 2 x 5

2 x 5

Ans. 40 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 5

MULTIPLES
When two or more numbers are multiplied, we obtain a product. This product is a
multiple of each of the numbers being multiplied.

Eg. 2 x 5 = 10, thus 10 is a multiple of 2 and 5.

Properties of Multiples

• Every number is a multiple of itself.

Eg. 7 is a multiple of 7.
• Every number is a multiple of 1.
Eg. 19 is a multiple of 1.
• The smallest multiple of a number is the number itself.
Eg. Multiples of 4 are 4, 8, 12, 16… so the smallest multiple of 4 is 4.
• Every multiple of a number is either equal to or greater than the number.
Eg. Multiples of 7 are 7, 14, 21, 28, 35…
• A number has infinite multiples.
Eg. Multiples of 3 are 3, 6, 9, 12, 15…
