Chapter 2

The study used a descriptive research design to explore the study habits of honor students at Baliuag University. The participants were 11th grade honor students from the 2019-2020 school year selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected through interviews and group discussions using a self-constructed research instrument. The interviews focused on the experiences of honor students and were recorded. Group discussions allowed participants to share views and explore meanings to convey ideas to others.

Research Design

The study adopted a descriptive research design which explores the struggles of GAS

Honor students in their study habits. The population consisted of General Academic Strand

students in Baliuag University. The sample that will be used are the GAS students who are

ranked as “With Honor”. The researchers used a self-constructed research instrument, interview

and group discussion for data collection. In the research, the data will be attained by interviews

to focus on experiences of honor students.

Participants and Sampling Procedure


The participants of this study are the Grade 11 General Academic Gas with Honor

students of the 2019-2020 Academic School Year. In this study, the researchers used purposive

sampling to obtain the participants they need. According to this method, which is under the

category of non-probability sampling techniques, the participants are selected on the basis of

their knowledge, relationship, and expertise regarding to a research subject. In the current study,

thee participants who were selected are the students who have special relationship in this study.

Research Instrument

Data Gathering Procedure

Conducting interviews and group discussion was the main tool and procedure that

will be used to gather data. In this case, the researches should have relevant and significant

questions. In interviews, researchers should have questions in which the respondents will have

the capability to provide a response or answer where they are comfortable. The researcher should

also have their follow-up questions that can help them to get more information from their

respondents. Face-to-face interview is the way to do it and the interviewer can record the

conversation between the respondents with the use of recorder in phone. In group discussion, the
participants could help each other to share similar interest, views, opinions, and to explore every

personal meaning. It is a systematic exchange of problems, issue or scenario that conveys ideas

to other participants. It can help each other to express their experiences and challenges in every

situation.
