The in-house standard is binding for the entire company. Publication takes place in the Inter-
net and is valid without signature from the date of release (see page header and signature
line).
1. Scope
This Dresselhaus standard defines the requirements for different applied coatings and
coating systems with steel fasteners. It applies for coating systems on metallic tools, e.g.
screws, washers and nuts. The coatings are classified according to their corrosion stress.
The selected corrosion protection is entered with the corresponding abbreviation in the
DH stock list.
2. Coating Systems
Zinc flake coating systems can be applied in various combinations to the surface of a steel
fastener, depending on customer requirements. Under the influence of heat (baking) a me-
tallic bond of the lamellae among each other and between the lamellae and the substrate,
thus creating a sufficiently electrically conductive inorganic surface coating that ensures ca-
thodic protection.
The coating systems from Dresselhaus are all chromium(VI)-free.
The base layer and the top layer can contain integrated lubricant depending on the desired
coefficient of friction. An additional top coat can be applied to increase corrosion resistance
and to achieve other specific properties (e.g. torque/tension ratio, appearance, color, ther-
mal stability, increased electrical resistance, UV resistance).

3. Special Requirements
3.1 Annealing
When chemical thread retention in accordance with DIN 267 Part 27 or 28 is applied,
only sealings without integrated lubricant may be used. If a certain friction value must be
obtained with a lubricant, this must be applied as a top coat, i.e. as the final process step
following chemical protection.

* The layer thickness 8 µm is possible only from thread size M10. For thread sizes < M10 the layer thickness is less, in accordance with ISO 4042.
Screw and nut sizes which lead to exceeding the zero line of the thread tolerances for the specified layer thickness are exceptions.
1)Friction value adjustment according to the choice of the manufacturer by means of integrated (T2) or subsequently applied (T4) lubricant. For chemical thread T2nL /
thread retention / T4 applies fundamentally.
