 This is a take-home examination.


 Please do not write your name, JGU Id or any identification text inside your submission
document.
 Please ensure that your submission strictly adheres to JGU plagiarism / Similarity
guidelines.
 Ensure the submissions are done in a compatible file format adhering to the guidelines
provided in the question paper regarding file format and name of the document.
 Please follow the instructions provided in the question paper regarding name of the
document/ folder to be submitted. In case there is no instructions kindly follow the format
provided below:

i. Use last three digits of your JGU Id wherever ‘@#$’ appears in the questions. For example,
if your JGU Id is 2720090026, @#$ will take the value 026, i.e. replace/substitute @ with
0, # with 2 and $ with 6. Similarly, #$ will take the value 26 and $# will take the value 62.

ii. Your answers will be evaluated as per your official JGU Id, therefore, ensure that you do
not assume any other value/number. If you assume any other JGU ID you will score zero
in question/exam.
iii. Marks will not be awarded if you copy from your classmates.
iv. Students undertaking the examination are requested to adhere to the University norms
related to examinations.

Instructions for submission

I. Click legible pictures of your work and paste them to MS Word file. You can also scan
your answers and submit a pdf file. If evaluator can’t read your answer script, he or she
cannot evaluate your paper.
II. You should submit only one file/document.
III. If you use a digital notebook, you can also solve questions on it and then paste the
screenshots/images on the word file or submit a pdf file.
IV. Note: Solving this paper should not take more than 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours. It is
advised that you allocate 30-45 minutes for any unforeseen circumstances, that could
hamper your submission on UMS.

Attempt all questions

1. A liberal arts college has 10#$ students. The numbers studying various languages are:
English 78#; French 22$; and Spanish 52. These figures include 110 who study English
and French, 32 who study English and Spanish, 15 who study French and Spanish. Finally,
all these figures include 1# students taking all three languages.
(a) How many study English and French, but not Spanish? 2 Marks
(b) How many study English, but not French? 2 Marks
(c) How many study no languages? 1 Mark

b. Find the doubling time of the population of Hogsmeade village, which has the
annual growth rate of $.#%. 2.5 Marks

3. Use sign diagrams to find for what values of x each of the following inequalities holds:

You invested Rs1500 in the bank today. What should be the final amount in your bank
account after 10 years at 1$% interest paid after every #$ days. Consider 365 days in a
year. (Do not round off in any step, rounding off will be penalized) 5 Marks

5. The expenditure of a household on consumer goods, C, is related to the household’s


income, y, in the following way: When the household’s income is Rs 10#$, the expenditure
on consumer goods is Rs 9#$, and whenever income increases by Rs 1$#, the expenditure
on consumer goods increases by Rs 80.
a. Express the expenditure on consumer goods as a function of income, assuming a
linear relationship. 4 Marks
b. Interpret the model. 1 Mark

6. Find the derivatives of the following functions


a) 𝑦 = (1 − 2𝑥)1#$ 2.5 Marks
b) 𝑦 = √#$𝑥 2 + 3 2.5 Marks

7. Evaluate the following integrals

8. Find the present value of 500,@#$ which is due to be paid 5 years from now if the interest
rate is $% per year:
(a) compounded annually. 1.5 Marks
(b) compounded continuously. 1.5 Marks
(c) Explain why there is difference between two amounts you get in (a) and (b). 2 Marks

9. A tour bus has 8# seats. Experience shows that when a tour costs Rs. 28@#$, all seats on
the bus will be sold. For each additional Rs. 10$# charged, however, 2 fewer seats will be
sold. Find the largest possible revenue. Take all the steps as discussed in class. (Round the
value to the nearest natural number if required). 10 Marks
