A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics

The document provides a detailed lesson plan on teaching students about circles in mathematics. It includes objectives to define circles and their parts, solve circle problems, and understand the significance of circles. The lesson plan outlines procedures for teachers to present the topic, engage students in an activity to introduce circles, discuss the key parts of circles including the radius, diameter, chord, and center, provide examples and definitions, and evaluate student understanding with an activity and assignment.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 9

April 3, 2018

I. Objectives
At the end of the session, the students must have:
1. Defined a circle and its parts
2. Solved problems involving the parts of a circle.
3. Appreciated the significance of circle.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Circle
Reference: Geometry for Third Year Textbook pp. 184-186
Materials: Visual Aids, Bond Paper, Ruler, Pen, Chalk and Eraser.
Values Integration: Cooperation
III. Procedure

Teachers Activity Students Activity

A. Preparation
Stand up everybody. Kindly, lead the prayer (Anna lead the prayer)
Anna. Amen.

Good Morning class! Good Morning Ma’am.

Before you take your seats, kindly pick up

some pieces of paper or any garbage under
your chair then please arrange your chairs.

And now please be seated. Thank you ma’am.

Is there anyone who is absent today? None ma’am.

Very good!

B. Presentation
Ma’am the given images are clock,

clap.
C. Lesson Proper The students will raise their hands.
Who wants to get this two Choco mucho?
Yes Ma’am.
Many of you want this Choco mucho. So,
just follow my instruction then the first two
students who will finish the given activity will
have it. I will give you bond paper and ruler.
Ok, are you ready?

Draw a point in the middle of a bond paper.

Now using a ruler make 8 other points that
are having distance of 10cm from the first
point then connect the other 8 points to each

with their seatmates.
Compare your work with your seatmates.

I will give the Choco mucho to the first two

students who finished the activity as a
reward for their activeness. It is about a circle, ma’am.
So from our activity, who can guess about
our topic for today?

Very good! Give yourself a daddy shark

clap.

(Post the objectives in the board) Circle a perfectly round shape.

Do you have any idea of what is Circle?

Very Good!

From the activity that we had, you saw that

points that are the same distance from a
fixed point yield a round shape.

Circle is a set of points on a given plane,

which is equidistant from a fixed point called
the center.
Note: A circle is named by its center. The
circle here is called Circle O.

I will discuss the other parts of a circle. Let’s

discuss it one by one.

Using the bond paper that we used from the

activity that we had. We will use it while I am
discussing the parts of a circle. A segment drawn from any point on
the circle to the center is called a
Please read the given definition. radius.
Yes, John.

Thank you!
The students will name one point as

point which is the center O and point

one point as point T then connect the fixed
point which is center O and the point T.

A chord is a segment that connects

any two points of a circle.
Next, please read.
Yes, Jana.

The students will name the two points

Thank you, Jana. as point P and point S then they will
connect the point P and point S.
Using your bond paper name the two points
as point P and point S then connect the
point P and point S.

Segment AE, segment BG, segment

CF, and segment DH are chords of
circle O.
From the figure shown, what are the names
of the chords of the circle O?

The segment DH, Ma’am.

Can you identify the longest chord from the

given?
A diameter is a chord containing the
Very good! center. All diameters of a circle are
equal.
Ok, read the given definition.
Yes, Chris.

Thank you, Chris.

Segment DH is a diameter of circle O. It is
the longest chord of circle and it is twice the
length of a circles radius.
a. TRUE
Determine whether each statement is true or b. FALSE
false. c. FALSE
a. Two radii always have the same length. d. TRUE
b. Two chords always have the same length. e. TRUE
c. All chords are diameter.
d. All diameters are chords. Circle is a set of points on a given
e. A radius is not a chord. plane, which is equidistant from a
fixed point.
What is a circle?

Circle is one of the most useful geometric

figures in our modern civilization. It is the
simplest and most perfect figure known. It is

used in geography, astronomy, and
navigation.

What are the terms related to a circle?

Very good! Let’s proceed.

2. Center
3. Diameter/Chord
4. Radius
1.Segment ST – chord 5. Chord
2. O 6. Chord
3. Segment SN
4. Segment OM
5. Segment PR
6. Segment TM

IV. Evaluation
A. Draw your own circle and illustrate the
following:
1. Segment CA is a chord
2. Center E
3. Segment BD is a diameter
4. Segment EF is a radius
5. Segment EG is a radius

B. The table below refers to radius and

diameter of a circle. Complete the table.
Radius Diameter
6. 12cm
7. 488 cm
8. 112dm
9. 36m
10. 27km

Are you done? Pass your paper.

V. Assignment
Cut out at least five (5) pictures of things
around us that best represent a circle and
then give the significance. Glue it on your
notebook.
