TO CONTRIBUTORS AND SUPPORTERS.
THE War is now over, and though circumstances are anything but favourable to the Architectural Profession
or to the Architectural Publisher, we look forward to better times to come with a definite hope.
A few words in explanation of the policy carried on in respect to this publication during the
war and our future aims is not perhaps amiss at this time.
The restrictions placed on Architecture and Building at once made themselves felt in respect to
this journal. The Royal Academy Exhibition with the inclusion of Photographs soon became filled
with representations of completed work of which this journal had in many cases already published the
preliminary sketches or exhibition perspectives. I felt that under such circumstances the half-yearly or
Concerning the future I desire to depart from the past traditions of this book as far as arrange-
ment is concerned. Each issue will contain a Representative review of the Royal Academy Exhibition ;
but this I feel is not sufficient for our present needs, and therefore the Architectural Review part
of the publication will include Reviews of not less than 16 pages on current Topical Architectural
Subjects. Volume 52 will, it is hoped, include Reviews on Cottage Homes and Housing Schemes,
Garden Architecture, Public Offices, Interiors by Baillie Scott and others, and if possible Reviews on
The publishing has been taken over by Messrs. B. T. Batsford, Ltd., of 94, High Holborn, W.C.
This firm is so well known and has such a splendid reputation for supplying all the various needs of
the profession that they need no further recommendation. But the Proprietor, A. E. MARTIN-KAYE,
would prefer that all editorial correspondence be addressed to THE EDITOR, 44, Doughty Street, W.C. 1,
Messrs. BATSFORD have a large and varied Stock, both New and Secondhand, of Works on a
subjects connected with Architecture, Building, and Decorative Arts of all Times and Countrie
They will be pleased to send gratis Illustrated Catalogues on these subjects. In view of the increase
interest in English styles, the Publishers direct attention to the many Books they issue on Counti
