A Man With A Camera

Citizen Kane was a revolutionary film of the 20th century that utilized innovative cinematic techniques. It employed the deep focus technique, where everything within the frame is in focus rather than just the foreground. This allowed viewers greater insight into scenes and emotions without needing dialogue. Citizen Kane also used the "wiping" transition technique between shots and varied camera angles. Through these techniques combined with the theatrical experience of its actors, the film was able to deeply engage audiences and explore its story in new ways.

Many people have contributed greatly to this world in almost every aspect of human life.

It were the people that found ways to make the life of the people meaningful. Such contributions

have been made through books, literature, media and most famously, films. Movies or films have

been an important part of human life. They have taught us the very fundamentals of life by

depicting various situations and impacts one has to experience or may experience in one’s life

time. Some films were made on human history, some contained a message while some focused

on just presenting new ideas for the public. With the advent of film industry, many of the

improvements have been made. Some were focused on the angles of the camera, some on the

features of a scene while some on the overall aspect of the film. All in all, every effort proved to

be revolutionary. One such film of the 20th century is Kane citizen. The story is a gem in its own

as it focuses on the story that secures a place in the hearts of its audience. The film uses various

types of techniques and tricks to keep the audience engaged with the film.

One of the most fabulous technique of the film is the use of deep focus technique. In this

technique everything within the frame is captured and not just the people. In the earlier films, the

people who used be in the frame were focused and their background wasn’t given any such

importance. This technique helps the audience to connect with the film and have an insight of the

scene that has been presented. Also the emotions and the nature of the scene gets cleared. In

some instances it happens that when a background is added into a scene, usually dialogues are

not needed to explain the scene, rather the viewer can understand the concept behind it just by

viewing it. This technique helped a lot of film-makers in the industry to expand their exploration

and give an extra flavor to their films. For example in one scene where Kane has been shown

with his complete background presents a picture of his loneliness and powerlessness. It shows

that the space Kane commands and the area that is beyond his control. Although no dialogues or

elaboration was needed, but the director was successful in explaining the concept to the audience

just by using deep focus technique.

In addition to it, other technique such as wiping was also used. By this technique, one

image is wiped off the screen by the other and it somehow connects the story for the viewer.

Also the director has used varied camera angles to capture the scene from the best direction or

the best way possible. All these techniques combined with the acting skills of the actors proved

to be the best combination, since the actors hadn’t done any film prior to this and earlier they

used to work in theaters. It was because of this background of the actors that the use of deep

focus came to prominence.
