BIBLE STUDY PROJECT: OBSERVATION TEMPLATE

Passage: Acts 9:36-43

A. I have read Acts 9:36-43 in both a formal translation (KJV, NKJV, NASB, ESV, or CSB)
and a functional translation (NIV, NLT, or NCV). Highlight the correct answer. Please
use the translation provided in your digital library or found at Biblegateway.com

o Yes
o No

B. Having read the passage in both formal and functional translation, list at least 2 similarities
and 3 differences between the way both translations cover this story. You may list as many
similarities and differences that you find as long as you meet the minimum amount.

1. Similarity – Joppa is expressly identified in the two versions as the city where
Tabitha lived.

2. Similarity – Peter knelt next to her and interceded, as per the narration of the two
versions.

3. Difference –In NIV, the dead woman is Tabitha while in the Greek version is
Dorcas. The original language is KJV is not identified

4. Difference - In the NIV version, the two men sent to pick Peter used the words
please come at once. In KJV, it states that They '[desired] him that he would not
delay to come to them.’

5. Difference - Peter called unto the Widows and saints once he raises Tabitha in the
KJV. In the ESV, he is taken to address the believers specially the widows.

C. Identify the basic elements of the story you are studying

Peter and Tabitha/Dorcas

2. Plot: (50-100 words)

Tabitha (or Dorcas) was a benevolent person who aided the destitute. She felt ill and ultimately
died. Two males were dispatched to retrieve Peter since he was near by. Once he came, he was
pointed to all of Tabitha's designs by the sobbing widows. 'Tabitha, arise,' Peter begged as he
knelt at her side. She was handed over to the followers as a present. As a result of it, numerous
individuals became saved. Peter continued to luve with Simon the tanner in Joppa for a few days.

3. Story structure: (50-100 words)

Note: Plot and Story Structure are not the same thing (see the tutorial and student example)

Introduction: Tabitha supports the destitute and widowed by stitching outfits for them.
Inciting Incident: Tabitha becomes sick.
Rising Action: Dorcas dies.
Climax: Because Peter is not very a long way from there, two followers track him down. Peter
intercedes for her and brings her back from the dead through intercession.
Falling Action: The believers and widows receive Tabitha.
Resolution: People hear this and many believe.
