DLL in Math 5

This detailed lesson plan aims to teach students about measuring temperature using thermometers. The objectives are for students to understand area, volume, temperature concepts and apply them to problems and real-life situations. Key learning competencies include reading and measuring temperature using alcohol or digital thermometers in degrees Celsius. The lesson content will cover reading and measuring temperature using thermometers through classroom activities like using different thermometer models, taking temperature readings in groups, and reinforcing the concepts through textbook exercises and questions. Students will apply their learning by measuring temperatures of people at home.

Detailed Lesson Plan in MATHEMATICS 5

I. Objectives:
A. Content Standards
- Demonstrates understanding of area, volume and temperature
B. Performance Standards
- Is able to apply knowledge of area, volume and temperature in mathematical
problems and real-life situations
C. Learning Competencies/Objectives:
- Knowledge: Reads and measure temperature using thermometer (alcohol and/or
Digital) in degree Celsius. (M5ME-lvf-85/page 65 of 109)
Skill: Perform the given tasks individually, by pair and by group following the given House/
standard/ guidelines.
Attitude: Cooperation
II. Content/Topic: Reading and measuring temperature using thermometer (alcohol
and/or Digital) in degree Celsius
Reference: 21st Century MATHletes Textbook, pages 318-323
Materials: Pictures, TV, laptop, power point presentation, activity cards, charts, local
Materials found in the community
III. Learning Procedures:
Teacher’s Activity
A.Before the lesson
1. Drill (Using the power point)
Rearrange the jumbled words to form science terms
APATMERETRU THEREMOMRTEE RURMYCE CSALE

2. Review (showing thru power point)

Give the equivalent. Conversion of linear measure

80mm=---cm
5m=----dm
6m=---mm
3. Motivation
Mother wants to find out if her son has a fever.
What is the best thing mother can use to find the body
temperature of her sick son?
B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Presenting a model of thermometer. It has a movable red color
which resembles the mercury.
What does the red color represents?

You are provided with the model of thermometer in the illustration

board. We are going to have a role call. I’ll be the one to call first
with your respective color in our roleta, then if you got the correct
answer one of your member will go in front to roll the roleta for
the next color group to answer. Are you ready?

0C 100C 37C 40C

2. Performing the Activities
Group Activity
Dividing the class into four
groups. Distributing activity
sheets in each group.

Group 1— Using digital

thermometer
Group 2— Using pictures of
temperature Readings
Group 3 — Using pictorials
Group 4 — Using alcohol
thermometer

Before doing the activity let us

know first the safety
precautionary measures in
handling digital thermometer.
(teacher presents on the
board the printed text in
manila paper)

To begin with your activity,

may I know the name of your
based on the different sitio
found here in our Brgy?

Group 1—
Group 2—
Group 3—
Group 4—
After the activity pupils discuss
how they read and measure
the temperature
3. Processing the activities
Ask: How did you find the
activity? How were you able to
read and measure the
temperature?

Discuss. Giving the emphasize

by presenting on the board
written the text same with the
difference between an alcohol
and a digital thermometer.

C— “degree Celsius” used to

express temperature. Digital
thermometers are used in
industry and in home, in
applications including food
presentation, manufacturing,
medical and scientific testing
and procedures.

Alcohol thermometers or spirit

thermometer is an alternative
to the mercury—in—glass
thermometer and has similar
functions. Unlike contents of
an alcohol thermometer are
less toxic and will evaporate
quickly. The ethanol version is
the most widely used due to
the low cost and relatively low
hazard posed by the liquid in
case of breakage.

4. Reinforcing the
Concept and Skill
Now let us explore using your
textbook on page 322.

Everyone read the direction.

Who will answer number 1?
Yes, Violeta
Reyin
Remelia
Rico

5. For more practice do the

next activity on page 322.
Answer by group.

6. Applying to New and Other

Situations Adrian boiled the
meat that he needs for his
recipe and he let it cool for 20
minutes. After that, he
measured its temperature and
got 62C. How many degrees
did the meat’s temperature go
down after boiling?

7. Generalization thru gallery

walk. Each group will go on
hiking to mount Bulanjao.
While walking they will sing
Bataraza Hymn going to 4
station. In every station each
group will pick words to
answer the question until they
go back to their own station.

The following questions are:

1. What is a
temperature?
2. How can we measure
temperature?
3. What are the parts of a
thermometer?
4. What is the metric unit
for measuring
temperature?

8. Valuing with the lesson.

How can you apply your
knowledge by the use of
thermometer?

IV. Evaluation:
Direction.
Write the letter of the
correct answer.

1.Hot water a) -10C b) 30C c)

70C
2. A person with fever a) 30C
b) 35C c) 40C
3. Ice cold tea a) 10C b) 20C c)
40C
4. Bread in oven a) 50 C b)
150C c) 290 C
5. Ice candy a) 100 C b) 35C c)
