 Buyer Seller Meet on Large Cardamom

Spices Board is spearheading activities for the excellence of Indian spices, so as to help
the Indian spice industry in attaining the vision of sustaining the leadership in global trade of
spices & value added spice products, thereby contributing to the growth of agricultural exports
from India. The main functions are research, development, domestic market promotion of
Small & Large Cardamom , Post-harvest improvement of spices, Promotion of organic
production, processing and certification of spices, Development of spices in the North East,
Provision of quality evaluation services and Export promotion of spices. Undertaking
multifaceted activities at the various levels of the supply chain starting from the farm level to
export, Spices Board provides support to the stakeholders towards holistic output in terms of
production, post-harvest improvement, market promotion, quality evaluation and export
promotion of spices.

India is the leading producer of large cardamom in the world. Large Cardamom is a major spice
crop grown in the Sub-Himalayan tracts in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh. Nagaland, Manipur
and North Bengal. Farmers in the regions depend on cultivation of large cardamom for their
livelihood. Lack of organized markets is the major challenge in marketing of large
cardamom. Direct market linkage between the producers / producer groups and exporters will
help to improve the value chain of large cardamom.

This particular Buyer Seller Meet for Large Cardamom is organized by the Spices Board at the
behest of Indian Spices & Foodstuff Exporters Association (ISFEA), Mumbai to encourage the
exporter members to source large cardamom from the growing regions directly from producers
/ producer groups.
