GUIDELINES FOR UNIT 1 BIOLOGY 2021-2022

1. WELCOME
Welcome to Unit 1 Biology. Do not hesitate to contact me by phone 359-
8366 or message for any help you need.

2. SYLLABUS
The syllabus is divided into 3 modules. You will be provided with the
relevant past papers (soft copy) at the start of each module.
The syllabus will be completed as follows:
 Oct-Dec 2020 (Module 1)
 Dec 2020 (Module 2)
 Jan-Mar 2021 (Module 3)
 Mar-Apr 2021 (Revision)

3. WHATSAPP CHAT
The WhatsApp chat is for communication between the class and the
teacher. Please limit your communication on this chat between 6:00 a.m.
to 7:00 p.m. This chat is for schoolwork only. Should you wish to discuss
other issues, contact me privately.

4. GUIDELINES FOR ONLINE SESSIONS


All classes will be online. Observe the following for the online classes:
 Sign in early, before the start of class. If you are accidentally
disconnected from class, sign in again as soon as possible.
 Sign in with your first name and surname ONLY. No nicknames or
initials are allowed.
 No recording of sessions is allowed.
 Do not chat with each other during class.
 A good internet signal is necessary. Place your device as close as
possible to the source of the internet signal in your home.
 Adequate lighting of your room, a table and chair (not your bed or
sofa), no music/noise/food and snacks/other distractions, are
recommended.
 A device with a large screen is recommended.
 Turn off your video.
 Mute your microphone.

5. FEES
Fees should be paid if you are registered as a member of the class,
regardless of your attendance at the online sessions. In the case of
financial difficulty, prolonged absence from classes or unusual
circumstance, CONTACT ME PRIVATELY.
 There are two options for payment of fees: online banking or
payment in person.
 If you wish to pay online, the details are

 If you wish to pay in person, do so in the snack shop opposite the


Preysal Government Primary School.
 The directions to the school are Sir Solomon Hochoy highway. Leave
the highway at the Preysal exit. Turn left into Freeport Mission Road
(it goes uphill, next to the blue Elahie’s Supermarket). At the flashing
amber traffic light, turn right, off the road, into the parking spaces.
You are at the front of the shop. The shop is open at 7:00 a.m. – 5:50
p.m. (Monday-Saturday) and 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon (Sundays.)

Fees should be placed in a sealed envelope and labelled with:


 Name
 Subject
 Form (Unit 1 or Unit 2)
 Amount
 WhatsApp Number

6. COMMUNITY SERVICE
You are advised to engage in community service if you are interested in
medical studies after Form 6. Some universities require participation in
community service as an entry requirement.

7. Highly recommended textbooks are:


 Biology Unit 1 for CAPE Examinations by Ramesar, Jones and Jones.
Cambridge University Press.
 CXC Study Guide Biology Unit 1 for CAPE.

Recommended textbooks are:


 AS and A2 Biology by Bradfield, Dodds, Dodds and Taylor. Longman
Publisher.
 Biological Science 1 & 2 third Edition by Taylor, Green and Stout.
Cambridge University Press.
8. The fees, dates and times for classes are as follows:

The tuition fee may be paid either in installments between October 2021 and April 2022 OR in one
payment during the same period.

9. Please note that Module 1 of Unit 2 is scheduled for June-July 2022.
