ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT ON
RAVAGING OF TYPHOON KARDING
SY 2022-2023

INTRODUCTION

Karding (Noru), the Philippines’ 11th tropical cyclone for 2022, lashed Central Luzon with
torrential rain and fierce winds. Northern Luzon and Southern Luzon were also affected. Karding first
made landfall as a super typhoon in Burdeos, Quezon, late Sunday afternoon, September 25, followed
by another landfall as a typhoon in Dingalan, Aurora, in the evening. It then crossed Nueva Ecija,
Tarlac, and Zambales, before emerging over Zambales’ coastal waters early Monday, September 26.

Karding had a period of “explosive intensification” prior to becoming a super typhoon on

Sunday. PAGASA refers to super typhoon (STY) as “a tropical cyclone with maximum wind speed
exceeding 185 kph or more than 100 knots.” At 10:00 a.m. of Sept. 25, Karding "was estimated based
on all available data including those from Daet and Baler Doppler Weather Radars at 175 km East of
Infanta, Quezon (15.0°N, 123.3°E)." It had a maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h near the center
with gustiness of up to 240 km/h, according to PAGASA.

ASSESSMENT

As an assessment, the school prepared for the upcoming storm damage that might be held in
the school vicinity. The School Disaster Risk Reduction Management Coordinator (SDRRM) checked
classrooms, laboratories and all the possible areas where the wreckage will take place. Also, SDRRM
secure the files of the school so that it will not be damage by flashflood and a strong wind.
After the typhoon, SDRRM checked once again the school vicinity if there were damages
caused by the typhoon. Upon checking, there were minimal damage occurred like curtains, signage
and some branches of trees fell down. Then it will be reported to RADaR so that the division will
know about the casualties happened in the school.

WORK PLAN

SDRRM monitored the announcement of the school head and the weather condition so that
there will be a proper and early dissemination of the information regarding the announcement
cancellation of classes to ensure the safety and security of both teachers and learners. Moreover, ahead
of time, the SDRRM checked all the possible areas to be damaged when the typhoon landed in the
Province of Nueva Ecija to secure the facilities and properties in any casualties.
