Failures in Computer

The document summarizes common computer failures including displays showing the "blue screen of death", keyboards malfunctioning by repeating or stuck keys, hard disk drives not loading programs, overheating causing crashes and data loss, RAM memory freezing programs, slow startup and shutdown from too many running applications, battery life degradation in laptops, and difficult to diagnose motherboard failures from various causes like electrostatic discharge or physical damage. Potential fixes are outlined for keyboard problems like cleaning and replacement, and checking for short circuits or physical damage for motherboard issues.

Common Failures
Display
The "blue screen of death", this is a Microsoft error and means that the
computer cannot recover from a system error. It is usually accompanied by a
text indicating the error code to which it corresponds and serves as a
reference for what happened.
KEYBOARD

Is very likely to fail if you do not

clean it frequently. Its errors range
from repeating two or more letters
when typing to malfunctioning keys,
such as sticking, coming loose, or
not appearing on the screen when
pressed. Hard Disk Drive

If a laptop failure occurs that affects

the hard drive, some programs will
not respond as before and messages
will appear that a file could not be
copied or opened. The most extreme
failure occurs when the computer
stops entering the operating system.
Overheating

The overheating of a PC or laptop is

a situation that directly affects the
proper functioning of our
equipment. It causes errors, data
loss, crashes, reboots or shutdowns.
In addition, it reduces the useful life
of the components and, in extreme
cases, causes irreparable damage
to some of them.

RAM memory

Its most common fault is that it locks

or freezes any program even if it is
running normally.
UNCOMMON FAULT
Slow start-up and shutdown
Applications can consume resources even if
we do not run them directly, and they can
even load at startup with the computer and
stay in the background during the whole
time we are using our PC.
If this happens and we have many
applications that work in this way, startup
times will be very slow, since the system will
have to load many things at startup, and
the same will happen with shutdown times
(it will have to close many applications).
Autonomy and feeding problems

The batteries used in laptops have a predefined

lifespan that is measured in charge cycles. This
means that when we complete a charge and
discharge cycle the battery gradually begins to
lose retention capacity, which means that a
device that has completed 50% of its charge
cycles will offer half the autonomy it had when it
was new.
Motherboard
Diagnosing the possible failures of a motherboard is
quite difficult since there are many things that can be
causing such failure. Electrostatic discharge. Power
surges, power supply failures. Physical damage (shock or
impact) during the installation of a processor or the
processor. Excessive bending during the installation
process of a processor or memory. Damage to
components next to the processor socket during the
installation of a new processor.
