INTRODUCTION

In this lesson, we will cover these topics:

- We're Called For Discipleship.

- We're Called To Make Disciples.
- Evangelism And Discipleship.
- Start Up Your Discipleship Group.

1
We're Called For Discipleship.

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All

authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am
with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen"
(Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV).

The One who has all the authority in heavens and on

earth has commanded us to make disciples of all
nations. Everyone who is saved must follow what our
Lord Jesus said in this Scripture. You and I are called
for discipleship.

2
Discipleship Is Relationship.

The word "to make disciples'' in this verse is from the

Greek word matheteou (ma-the-tu-wo), which means
"to teach or instruct." It's taken from the root word
mathetes (ma-the-tes), which means "a pupil, a learner
or a student."

A Christian, one who believes in the Lord Jesus, must

be a learner or student of His Word. The moment we
got saved was the same moment we entered the School
of Jesus. We are to learn from the Masterful Teacher.

Discipleship Is Personal.

Every believer is called for discipleship. We are expected

to get involved in it. Everyone should know how to
disciple, teach or instruct himself/herself. A successful
church discipleship begins from each individual
believer.

The Holy Spirit is given to each believer for the

purpose of personal discipleship. We have the Teacher

3
living inside of us to instruct or teach us from the
Word of God as we get into it.

"As for you, the Anointing you received from Him

remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach
you. But as His Anointing teaches you about all things
and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it
has taught you, remain in Him" (1 John 2:27, NIV)

"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father

will send in My name, will teach you all things and will
remind you of everything I have said to you" (John
14:26, NIV).

Discipleship Is A Lifestyle.

It is a lifestyle that makes our faith in Christ mature.

It's not a church program that after you finish the 12
months discipleship program you will end from there.
Discipleship is a lifestyle, it's everyday and it's until the
Return of Jesus.

In the Book of Acts, the disciples met together

everyday for discipleship. Though it's a group

4
discipleship, it gives us an insight that they practice as a
lifestyle. I believe that they did it everyday on their
personal walk as believers of Jesus.

"42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching

and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to
prayer… 46 Everyday they continued to meet together
in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes
and ate together with glad and sincere hearts" (Acts
2:42, 46, NIV).

"Christianity without discipleship is always

Christianity without Christ."

— Dietrich Bonhoeffer

5
We Are Called To Make
Disciples.

The Lord Jesus is expecting you to teach yourself, and

others. Every disciple is called to make others disciples
too. We have to reproduce. That's what Jesus meant in
Matthew 28:18-20. Discipleship is not just for pastors
and elite church leaders. Everyone has the teaching
anointing. The Anointing of the Holy Spirit that's in
Jesus and The Apostle is the same Holy Spirit living
inside of you.

In Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus is talking to His believers

in the New Testament, and all the believers until the
end of the age.

6
Discipleship Is Multiplication.

"But the word of the Lord continued to grow and to be

multiplied (Acts 12:24).

The Greek word for "multiplied" is plethuno. It's from

the root word pimplemi, which means "to be filled." It
carries the idea of a container that's filled and
overflowed with water. Luke used this word to describe
the multiplication in numbers of the disciples in his
time. The churches were filled and overflowed with a
large number of disciples. They were countless.

The very purpose of The Great Commission of Jesus is

multiplication. The Lord wants to multiply His
disciples to a large number.

"And the word of God increased; and the number of

the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a
great company of the priests were obedient to the faith"
(Acts 6:7).

7
"After this, the Church all over Judea, Galilee, and
Samaria experienced a season of peace. The
congregations grew larger and larger, with the
believers being empowered and encouraged by the
Holy Spirit. They worshiped God in wonder and awe,
and walked in the fear of the Lord" (Acts 9:31, TPT).

Discipleship Is Making Others Disciple Makers.

"The things which you have heard from me in the

presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful
men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Timothy
2:2).

Apostle Paul was the spiritual father and mentor of

Timothy. According to the Bible scholars, Paul
mentored timothy for about 20 years. Definitely
Timothy learned a lot from Paul. And now, Paul
wanted him to do the same. Timothy was instructed to
"pass on or give" to others his knowledge and
everything he learned from his mentor about the Word

8
of God. And the second instruction is to "make
disciple makers" who will be able to disciple others.

This principle gives the idea that there are people in the
church that are positioned or set to make to make
disciple makers in a context of wide leadership.

In Matthew 28:18-20, every believer is called to make

disciples of all nations. I believe this verse doesn't
suggest that all believers are called to have a wide
ministry leadership platform. I believe that we have
different degrees of anointing and different sphere of
influence.

"Salvation is free, but discipleship will cost you

your life."

—Dietrich Bonhoeffer

9
Evangelism And Discipleship.

The Great Commission of Jesus is evangelism and

discipleship. It doesn't start and end with evangelism.
It always start with evangelism, and continues with
discipleship. Every local church must have a systemic
and organized evangelism and discipleship ministry.
The secret or key of the church in the Book of Acts was
an organized ministry.

Evangelism.

A church or ministry organization must have an

Evangelism Team that has a Team Leader and ministry
staff. Their primary task is to reach out to the
unreached and unsaved people. They will bring them
to a local church for discipleship. The Evangelism
Ministry will not just preach the Gospel, and after that
they will leave the new converts unhomed. What I
mean, no church after that.

10
Evangelism Ministry is the gateway of the new convert
saved believers to enter the School of Jesus.

Discipleship.

Once a person gets saved, he/she must enter into a

discipleship program of a church. Every church
provides different ways how do they disciple their
congregation specially the newly saved believers. Some
churches have 6-12 months program. Some churches
will not permit their members to enter into any
ministry without undergoing the Discipleship
program.

11
Start Up Your Discipleship
Group.

This is the best time to start up your own discipleship

group. You may call it Lifegroup, Cellgroup,
Caregroup or whatever your respective church calls it.

This will only suggest a basic way how to start up your

discipleship group. If your church does have already, I
highly recommend to contact your pastor or leader to
be part its discipleship program. However, you may
still follow this guide specifically if your church doesn't
have a Discipleship program.

1. Pray and fast.

Every ministry should start in seeking the Lord

for His will, divine guidance, and power
through prayer and fasting. Jesus made an
example in Matthew 4:1-11, that before He

12
entered His earthly ministry He started in
prayer and fasting first. Prepare your spiritual
condition first.

2. Pray for three people that you will

evangelise and start to disciple.

Prayer touches people. Pray for three persons

that are closed in you. They could be your
family or friends. I believe that if you pray for
them for 2-4 weeks before you share Jesus with
them, their hearts will he opened. Another
thing, observe the same-gender rule.

3. Prepare your materials for evangelism.

You may check your respective church if they

do have evangelism tracts or materials. If they
don't, you may try to find online.

4. Set a schedule to meet them.

You may invite them to eat out like in Jolibee.

You may also do it via Messenger Call or

13
OnChat. Whichever is the most convenient
way, then do so. Be sure that you are
transferring with them and that you will invite
them to a Bible Study.

5. Be consistent in your Discipleship.

Once you've started up your discipleship

group, always meet them regularly at least once
a week. And have regular contact with them.
You may send them verses in messenger
everyday.

6. Have them involved in your local church.

Introduce your local church and pastor to

them. Invite them every Sunday. You may also
encourage them to be part of Discipleship
program of your church. Have them invite
their non-Christian also so that your
discipleship group will grow.

14
7. Pray for them always.

Don't stop praying for them always.
