SERVICE INFORMATION
Special tool #J-42992-2000UPD (“OBD-II Connector Kit” - see Figure 1) is now available as
an update kit to J-42992-98KIT. It should be used along with previously released kits
(J-42992-98KIT and J-38751-95NI) when wiring harnesses, connectors, and terminals
require repair. It contains new Tray #9 as well as two tools to be added to Tray #7 and
Tray #8.
NOTE: Please print this Technical Service Bulletin and keep it with the Harness Repair
Kits.

• Refer to the Claims Information section of this bulletin (page 5) for the method of billing
connector parts on warranty repairs.
• Refer to the “Essential Tool Shipment” flyer (on page 3) for additional information.
• An Instruction Sheet was shipped with the kit. It shows where to store updated kit
components. Refer to “Instruction Sheet for J-42992-2000UPD” (on page 4) for
additional information.
• This special tool is “Essential” and has been automatically sent to all Nissan dealers.
The non-vehicle account will be billed $204.60.
• Additional update kits or refill quantities of components can be ordered from
Tech-Mate (1-800-662-2001).

• Refer to the Tool Catalog Price List in ASIST under “INFO,” “Toolbox,” “Tool &
Equipment,” for refill quantity prices.

For information on which connectors to use and how to perform repairs, refer to:

1. The revised application guide included with the J-42992-2000UPD Kit.


2. The appropriate Electronic Service Manual (ESM).
3. The “OBD-II Connector And Terminal Pin Replacement And Check Procedure
Manual.”

NOTE: This manual was originally published in 1998. A new version will be
released in a future edition of ASIST.

repair damaged wire harnesses.

This essential tool will be invoiced to your Nissan non-vehicle account at $204.60 (plus appropriate

CLAIMS INFORMATION

Reference the Tool Catalog Price List in ASIST as outlined on page 2. Pro-rate the
individual connectors, terminals, retainers and/or seals used per this list, then multiply that
pro-rated amount by 40% (dealer mark-up) to arrive at the claimable amount for the repair
component(s) actually used. On your warranty claim, use either Part Category 720
(“Engine Electrical”) or 791 (“Body Electrical”) depending on where the connector(s)
repaired were located.
