    INTRODUCTION

    Background of the Study

    Students spend most of their time using social media like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc, then
    doing their own homework. People use social media to connect to other people who are far from
    them.Because of the evolution of social media,it’s much easier and convenient to use than before. Social
    media can be use to express your feeling towards someone or something. People are fascinated how
    they can tell their opinions using social media, usually for politics,education, or even entertainment.
    Students must really know the importance of social media to be able to fulfill their own will.
    Technology nowadays is becoming more and more high tech. And its improves day by day for us to use
    in our convienience. This technological evolution affects us but most are the “milennials”. In research
    we will fucos on the Senior High School students of Maasin City National High School ages from 17-19
    years old. For us to get more specific answer and accurate answer form our said research. The definition
    of social media is “the relationship that the exist between networks of people.”
    The Maasin City National High School is having more enrollers every year. When the school
    year comes, the students of Maasin City National High School in Senior High School students are
    addicted on the social media like playing computer games, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram,
    Tumbler, Tiktok, watching online even in the class.
    Social media really affects the students most, because they are usually the one using. The
    drriving factors for adoption of social media are progressively uhiquitous access, convenience,
    functionality, and flexibility of social technologies. These factors have made the adoption of social
    media very easy 3 and have tremensdously improved man kinds life by exposing him to different ways
    of creating and sharing information.
    Additional benefits of social technologies provided on the internet is that they are frequently free
    or require marginal investment, thereby eliminating a potential barrier to adoption. As we know, nothing
    interesting is ever completely one sided, so it is for social media as it comes with both positive and
    negative effects.
    Correlation between social media usage and academic performance of students. There have been
    various views and opinions which recognize four major advantages of social media use in higher
    education. These include, enhancing relationship, improving learning motivation, offering personalized
    course material, and developing collaborative abilities, argued that students are socially connected with
    one another and therefore share their daily learning experiences and do conversation on various topics
    through social media.
    Statement of the Problem
    This paper aims to find out the positive and negative impact of social media on students
    academic performance. Specifically it sought to answer the following:
    1.What is social media and why students use it?
    2.How much time do students spend using social media?
    3.What is the impact of social media on academic performance?
    Scope and Delimitation
    This study conducted to assess the impact of social media on students academic performance.
    10 students in every section who are actively using social media are the respondents of the study. It was
    conducted during year 2022-2023 this study limited only on variables of social media that the
    researchers assumed that has effects of respondents academic performance. These variables are
    respondents access to internet, usage, perception on social media and their frequency of using it.
    Significance of the Study
    Social networks are becoming more popular among the students and are a new way of spending
    time and serve as a separate channel for finding necessary information, both educational and
    entertaining. Therefore, it is urgent to examine the question of what effect social networks have on their
    users, in particular, how the use of social networks affects the academic success of students. This study
    will discover this information, giving the researchers an opportunity to explore and gain new
    knowledge. Furthermore, it can be used for future studies.
    Teachers: They will be able to measure the impact of social media in their students academic
    performance. Also, they will come up with an intervention.
    Parents: They will be able to monitor their childs academic performance and will be able to limit
    their social media usage.
    Stakeholders: They will be able to come up with an intervention on how to enhance their
    students performance in school with use of social media.
