Course description
Information and Communication Technologies course combines theoretical and practical
studies focusing on the ability to use common hardware and software applications, text
documents, data representation and compression, cryptography and ciphering, algorithms and
data structures, database, artificial intelligence & machine learning. Students will develop a
greater awareness of how applications are used in the workplace, and consider the impact of new
technologies on methods of working and on social and educational issues. The skills learnt will
be useful to them in their work across the curriculum, and will prepare them for future
employment.

Academic Integrity

Students must ensure that all work completed for this course is their own work. Any evidence of
plagiarism, data falsification, fabrication, collusion, self-plagiarism and/or other forms of
academic misconduct will be penalized. Further, information can be found in the Code of
Practice on Academic Integrity.

Late/Non Submission and Attendance Policy

Academic excellence and high achievement are only possible in an environment where the
highest standards of academic honesty and integrity are maintained: students at SDU must ensure
they adhere to this requirement. Active participation is an integral part of teaching and learning at
SDU. Therefore, regular class attendance is required of all students and records of any absences
are kept for each class: a student whose attendance falls below 40% will fail the course. Students
are also expected to be in class on time: poor punctuality is seen as being discourteous to the
teacher and other students, therefore repeat incidences of late arrivals are subject to a penalty.
The use of electronic devices (e.g.: computers, tablets, phones) is only permitted upon tutor
instruction. Any other activities (e.g.: texting, surfing, gaming, social emails, online
shopping...etc.) are strictly forbidden during class time. Students found to be engaged in any
non-class activity may lose marks for overall participation.

Course Specific Policy

● Don’t be late to classes (lectures and practice lessons). Students must participate fully in
every class. If you are late more than for 10 min attendance will not be taken.
● All assignments should be submitted on time. Late papers are not accepted.
● Cheating, duplication, falsification of data, plagiarism, and crib are not permitted under any
circumstances! Otherwise you will have 0 points for cheated assignments. Plus for cheating 2 times
you will have a retake.
● If you do not show at quizzes, a midterm, final exam you won’t receive any credits
(points).
● If you join the class after a few weeks, enroll in the course (INF 106) and ask your groupmates what
to do.
● Before, during and after the midterm, final exam, generally don't ask for points except bonus points.
If you do, we will deduct the score (points) you requested.
● You can take Bonus points (0-5 points) according to the criteria of your instructor.
