EE201 - Tutorial 2

This document discusses various representations and analyses of two-port networks. It provides examples of finding representations for two-ports defined by equations, determining output voltage for a two-port driven by a source and terminated by a load, and calculating representation matrices for two-ports connected in parallel. The document also examines a gyrator-tunnel-diode circuit, synthesizing controlled sources using a CCVS and VCCS, determining the conductance matrix for a three-terminal resistor, and calculating transmission matrices for two-ports at a given frequency.

EE201/282- Network Analysis

Multiport Resistors and Two Port Networks

Tutorial – 2
1. For the linear two-ports specified by the following equations. find as many
representations as you can
a. i1+2i2 + v2 = 0
v1 +v2 = 0
b. v1+ i2+v2=0
i1 = 0
c. v1=0
i2-i1=0

2. Find the six representations (whenever they exist) of the two-ports shown in Fig.Q-2.

Fig. Q-2

3. Using only linear resistors and linear controlled sources, find an equivalent circuit for the
two-ports described by the following matrices.

4. The two-port is driven by a source and terminated by a load as shown in Fig. Q-4.
Determine the output voltage v2 in terms of vs, Rs, RL and the conductances g11, g12, g21,
and g22.

5. Write down as man! tao-port representation matrices as possible for the tao-ports
shown in Fig. Q-5.

6. Consider the gyrator-tunnel-diode circuit shown in Fig. Q-6(a). Here the tunnel-diode v-i curve
is approximated as shown in Fig. Q-6(b).
a) Write an analytic expression describing this v-i curve.
b) Derive the analytical relationship between v1 and i1.
c) Plot the v1-i1 relationship from (b).

7. Show that every linear CCCS or linear VCVS can be synthesized using only a linear CCVS
and a linear VCCS.
8. The linear three-terminal resistor shown in Fig. Q-8 is connected as a grounded two-port.
Determine the conductance matrix G.

9. The two-port N in Fig. Q-9 is obtained by connecting two two-ports Na and Nb in parallel. N is
described by the following representation:
i1 =v1 + v2
i2= v1+2v2
If Na has the following representation:
va1 =va2 + ia2
ia1= va2+3ia2
