IV. PROCEDURES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES LEARNERS’ ACTIVITIES

A. Preliminary (a) Greetings and Introduction

Activities
The teacher will introduce herself to the class
and the learners will be called one by one for
their attendance.
Good morning, ma’am!
Good morning, everyone! Before we start,
allow me to introduce myself first. I am
(Teacher Intern’s Basic Profile).

(b) Checking of Attendance

The teacher will check the attendance. (The students will say, “Present”
I will now check your attendance. Kindly say, when their name is called.)
“Present” if your name is called.

(c) Review

The teacher will recall the previous topics.

Let us recall first the exponential function and

exponential expression that you have learned.
An exponential function is a
What is Exponential Function? function defined by f(x) = a x such
that a>0, a≠1.

*That is right. Exponential function is a

mathematical function in the form of f(x) = a x
such that a > 0, a ≠ 1. Where a is the base and
x is the exponent.

An exponential equation in one

Now, how about the Exponential Equation?
variable is an equation having a
variable in the exponent.

That is right, the Property of Equality is used.

Let a, b, and c be real numbers and, a ≠ 0 then
b c
a =a if and only if b =c.

And what are the Laws of Exponents

- product of a power
- power of a product
- quotient of a power
- power of quotient
- power of a power
- negative exponent
- zero exponent
- rational exponent
Very good, class. It seems that you did not
forget the topics that were discussed.

Now, we are going to discuss the exponential

inequality.

Are you all excited?

Yes ma’am, we are all excited!

B. Establishing a The teacher will discuss the lesson.

purpose for the Lesson
Now, let us talk about what an exponential
inequality is. What is exponential inequality?

 An inequality in one variable having a

variable in the exponent is referred to
as exponential inequality.
For example:
3 x +2
4 < 64

Property of Exponential Inequalities

*If b > 1, then the exponential function y = b x

is increasing for all x. This means that b x < b y
if and only if x < y.

*If 0 < b < 1, then the exponential function y

= b x is decreasing for all x. This means that b x
> b yif and only if x < y.

Rules for solving inequalities

i. If the same real number is added to

or subtracted from both sides of an
inequality, the sense of an
inequality is not changed.
For example: x + 2 > 0
x>0–2

x > -2

ii. If both sides of an inequality are

multiplied by or divided by the
same positive real numbers, the
sense of the inequality is not
changed.
For example: 4x < 2

4x 2
<
4 4
x<
2
4
iii. If both sides of an inequality are
multiplied by or divided by the
same negative real numbers, the
sense of the inequality is changed.
For example: - x ≥ 2

-1 (-x ≥ 2)
x≤2

C. Presenting new The teacher will then further explain the

lesson exponential inequality.

The principle used in the Property of Equality

for Exponential Equation, together with the
Rules in solving Inequality, is extended in
solving exponential inequality.

Let us have some examples

Example:

1. 3 x+1 > 234 .

x+1 5
3 > 3 →Since the base is 3 > 1, the
direction of the inequality is retained.

Copy the exponent then we have,

x+1>5

x>5–1

x>4

2. 24 x+1 ≤ 512
24 x+1 ≤ 29 → Since the base is 3 > 1, the
direction of the inequality is retained.

Copy the exponent then we have,

4x + 1 ≤ 9

4x ≤ 9 – 1

4x ≤ 8
4x 8

4 4

x≤2

3. 162 x−5 ≥ 642 x−3 64 cannot be multiplied by 16.

What have you noticed here?

That’s right, we’ll look for the base on

both sides.
2 (2 x−5) 3(2 x−3)
4 ≥4

2 (2x – 5) ≥ 3 (2x – 3) → copy

and multiply the exponent then we have,

4x – 10 ≥ 6x – 9

4x – 6x ≥ -9 + 10

-2x ≥ 1
−2 x 1

−2 −2
−1
x ≤ 2 →since we divide both
sides by negative real numbers,
the direction of inequality is
reversed or will changed.

( ) ( )
x+5 3x
1 1
4. ≥
10 100

( 101 ) ≥ ( 101 )
x+5 2(3 x)

( ) ( ) → since the base is

x+5 6x
1 1

10 10
1
<1, the direction of the inequality is
10
reversed.
Copy the exponent then we have,

x + 5 ≤ 6x

x – 6x ≤ - 5

-5x ≤ -5
−5 x −5

−5 −5
x ≥ 1 → since we divide both
sides by negative real numbers,
the direction of inequality is
reversed or will changed.

5. ( 0.5 ) x−1> ( 0.25 )−x−2

( 0.5 ) x−1> ( 0.5 )2(− x−2)→ since the base is
between 0 to 1 (0 < b < 1), the
direction of the inequality is reversed.

Copy the exponent then we have,

x − 1 > 2 ( -x -2)
x − 1 > -2x -4
x +2 x >¿ −4 + 1
3 x> ¿−3
3 x −3
>
3 3

x<-1
