Finding Domain and Range Lesson Plan

1. The lesson plan discusses finding the domain and range of functions for an 8th grade mathematics class. 2. A variety of engaging activities are included, such as a drawing game to motivate students and group activities to apply the concepts. 3. The lesson will begin with a review, include a presentation of the topic, and conclude with an evaluation and assignment for students.

Teacher’s Name

Mati National Comprehensive High School, Mati City, Davao Oriental

Name of School & Address

I – Objectives
At the end of 45minutes, the students will be able to:

A. Finds the domain and range of a function(M8AL-IId-1)

II – Subject Matter
Topic : Linear Function
Reference(s) : First Edition, 2020.Quarter 2 Module 4.Mathematics 8
Learner’s Module.SD Publication Inc. Philippines. ISBN

Instructional Materials : (related to the lesson and objectives)
Skill(s) : ( LOTS & HOTS )
Value(s) :

III – Procedure
Review
After the preliminary activities the teacher will review their previous topic.

Direction: Answer the following questions.

1. What are the three ways to express a relation?
2. Explain the difference between the domain and range of a relation

B. Motivation
The teacher will give an activity.

Title of the Activity: Domain and Range Drawing Game.

Procedure: Students will find their partner. They will be given one of each completed
graphs and the sheet of blank grids. I will set a timer for 3 minutes and have partner 1
describe a graph, while partner 2 draws. Try to make sure that the person describing
the graph can't see what his partner is drawing. When the time is up, the pair can look
at the original and the drawing and see how accurately the drawer was able to replicate
the graph based only on the verbal description from the partner.

C. Presentation of the lesson (lesson proper)

The teacher will introduce the learning objectives for the present lesson by giving the
student’s opportunity to read it aloud synchronously.
The teacher will conduct the following activity:

Title of the Activity: Find Me!

Procedure: Students will be group into five (5) groups and will be assigned on the proper area
where they can accomplish the activity. In this activity the teacher will show the presentation
for the following questions to be answered it by group. The answer will be writing down on
the ½ sheet of intermediate paper and at the back of the paper will be the group number and
the member. The group will be given only 10 minutes to answer the different question. After
the period the teacher will collect the answers and call the student randomly to answer on the
board with the following questions.
Direction: Find the Domain and a range of a function

After the activity, the teacher will provide feedback by asking the following questions:
1. How do you find the domain and range in the graph?
2. What is a function?

Function- is a rule that pairs each element on one set.

Domain- is the set of all inputs or the set of first coordinates of the ordered pairs.
Range- is the set of all outputs or the set of second coordinates of the ordered pairs.
Another way to identify the domain and range of functions is by using graphs.
Because the domain refers to the set of possible input values, the domain of a graph
Consists of all the input values shown on the x-axis. The range is the set of possible
Output values, which are shown on the y-axis.

D. Application

Title of the activity: MY FAMILY TREE!

Procedure: within the same group, the teacher will provide the materials to be

minutes to answer the following question:

Direction: All the problems will be presented below. Only you have to do is find their
family tree of the Range and Domain
1. For the function {(0, 1), (1,-3), (2,-4), (-4, 1)}, write the domain and range.

3. Consider the function: {(3, 11), (4, 18), (5, 27), (6, 38)}. What is the Domain?
Answer:
E. Generalization
The teacher will go back to the objective of the lesson and have a recap to the
students by asking the following questions:

1. What was the topic that we discussed today?

2. Define what is domain and range.
3. How will you apply this to your daily life?
The teacher will do probing technique to help students to arrive the correct answers

IV – Evaluation
The teacher will request the students to keep their notes and get a ½ sheet of paper.

Direction: Read the question carefully. Write True if the statement is right otherwise
Write False. Write your answer on the ½ sheet of paper. Strictly no erasure!

1. The domain is the y-intercept.

2. The range is the x-intercept.
3. Function is a set of ordered pairs.
4. Range with exactly one element is called the domain.
5. Domain is the set of all outputs or the set of first coordinates of the ordered pairs

V – Assignment / Agreement
Direction: Make a reflection to what have you learn today and give your own example.
