August has nally surprised us all. is
means heading back to our college towns
and away from our hometowns. Although
I will miss Mommas home cooked meals
and my Pops blasting his oldies in his
pick-up truck, Im glad to get back in
the swing of things with school. (And
by swing of things, I mean tailgates, all-
nighters, and power hours.)
Before leaving last semester, I asked you
all to do something out of your comfort zone and to send
me your adventures. Now that summer is about to wrap
up, please send me in your experiences. Id love to hear
how crazy college students are... out of school.
Freshman, welcome to college! Your life will be
completely dierent. You will need to study, you will live
o of ramen, and you will need to stock up on energy
drinks because before you know it, its nals time. Scared
about starting the next chapter of your life? Tweet me. Ill
help you out.

SPOTLIGHT
D-Fense! D-Fence! The Cougar football team will need to
get more out of its defense in 2011. In their seven losses in
2010, they gave up just over 39 points per game. Senior
Marcus McGraw will have to continue to pace the tackling,
and senior Loyce Means will need to provide pressure as a
defender in the backfeld. Means had 3 INTs in 2010.
Cougar football is upon us
once again. Quarterback
Case Keenum (see inset,
right) will lead the ofense,
which will once again put
up gaudy stats. Te Cou-
gars open the 2011 season
against the UCLA Bruins
on September 3rd at Rob-
ertson Stadium. Te Bru-
ins came to Texas in 2010
and surprised the UT
Longhorns in dramatic
fashion and took care of
the Cougars in Los Ange-
les, in a game where Case
Keenum was lost for the
season in the 2nd quarter.
Keenum and the ofense
will exact their revenge on
a Bruin defense that lost
key starters this summer.
If you cant support your
Cougars by coming out to
the game, dont fret; all the
games will be broadcasted
on TV in one form or an-
other. Te opener will be
on Fox Sports Net, while
the next two games will be
streamed live on ESPN3.

Cougars to victory.
ITS ALMOST THAT TIME!
CUP O MAXWELL?
The Cougars Case Keenum is
on the watch list for the Maxwell
Award, which honors the best of-
fensive player in the country each
year. Keenum has racked up an in-
sane amount of offense in his years
at UH and will build on those poten-
tially record-setting numbers.

MORE THAN A HOBBY, ITS LIFE
10 | AUGUST 2011 | STUDYBREAKS.COM
How did you get
involved with music?
In middle school I started writing
a lot of poetry because it helped me
vent.I bottled a lot of my emotions
up inside, and didnt know how to
express myself. One of my close
cousins started producing beats,
and I was at his house one day, and
really liked his sound. He told me
to spit a poem I had written about
my father, and so it began. Ive
been rapping since I was about
14-years old. Its become more
than just a hobby, its a passion,
and now its life.
Who are you
most inuenced by?
It started with the lyrics of Nas
and Eminem. It then moved on to
the music business aspect of Jay-
Z,the popularity of Lil Wayne and
Drake, and the unique styles of
Big Sean and Kid Cudi.

MY PLACE
Q: Describe yourself:
I grew up as the youngest in my
family. I only had one sibling and
were ve years apart. So, I had
lots of time to myself. I grew to
be very creative. I love to dress up
everything and it all must consist of
fabulous, glittery things!
Q: Describe your room:
Its denitely my personality in fur-
niture form. I have a wall for each
obsession I have along with a bit of
who Monica really is. My glamour
wall shows my sassy side. Its gold
and leopard print with multiple
portraits of Marilyn Monroe. Shes
the epitome of glamour to me.
My Mariah Carey wall shows my
obsession with her music. My fash-
ion wall contains tons of cut outs
from fashion magazines and I have
a giant six foot mirror with a beau-
tiful gold trim. My job was getting
rid of and it covers an entire wall!
Basically, everything I love, I slap it
on a wall.
Q: What is one item in your room that
best describes you?
My gold and leopard print wall-
paper I created. ey were actu-
ally decorative poster boards my job
was throwing away. So I took them
home and made it into wallpaper.
Its very amboyant and I love am-
boyant things!
Q: What is one thing you wouldnt live
without in your apartment?
My iMac. It contains absolutely
everything from schoolwork, music
and pictures. I cant live without it!
Q: What was your inspiration for
decorating your room?
I denitely wanted it to be very fun
and festive. My walls are completely
white so I wanted to add bright col-
ors and prints that would make me
feel good every time I walk in.
Q: How close are you to campus? How
do you like that?
I live in the Houston Heights. Its
not that far of a drive but living on
campus would denitely be a little
more convenient.
The fashion inspired pictures, gold and leopard wallpaper and
decorations surely make Monica Grimaldos room one of a kind.
With a little bit of glamour, a little sassy, and a whole lot of attitude,
Monica was able to transform her room into her own working white
canvas. Monica is able to express her obsessions and personality
through portraits of Marilyn Monroe, and anything that sparkles.

Pappasitos is always
busy for a reason. Huge

hot platters meant to be

atmosphere is festive and
the frozen margaritas call for

The Burger Guys arent whip-
ping up your average greasy
American burger. Though the
patty is made from Akaushi
beef, a Japanese beef that
boasts the lowest cholesterol
count in red meats, everything
else topped on the burger makes
up for a delicious and not so nu-
tritious meal. Their double-fsted
hot dogs are just as juicy and
tasty. Try the Cleveland dog, a ba-
con-wrapped, deep fried dog with
Fancy Lawnmower Ale mustard.
Dont forget the fries and shake!
