1. INTRODUCTION:
Design and Engineering works for New Med Gulf facilities (such as Office Building, Fabrication
workshop building, Store, security room etc.) will be constructed by M/s. Med Gulf at RLIC and
the design works was awarded to M/s.QDC. In line with this new development, lighting design
for Outdoor application (for Road Lighting, Car parking and Open field area) has to be provided.
2. OBJECTIVE:
To calculate and check the lighting illuminance levels for Outdoor areas based on the proposed
lighting layout drawings with the selected type of luminaires. This is also to check adequacy of
the lighting lux level calculated which is in line to the recommended standards using Dialux
software 4.13 Version.
3. DESIGN PARAMETERS
The following are average illumination levels as per the Recommended CISBE / BS EN lighting
Standards.

5. ANALYSIS
5.1 Methodology
For Outdoor area & road lighting process starts with inserting the area dimensions (width and
length of the plot) and inserting the buildings with their heights, width and length in meters. The
selected outdoor luminaires are then inserted in the design work area in the proposed location
and elevation.

The selection of luminaires type is taken from manufacturers on line plug-in where the light
data are inputs to the Dialux software Program Version 4.13. The input from the plug in are the
rated lumens of the lamps. The angle of rotation to check light direction for optimum light
distribution can be done. Adjustment can be done to add or reduce the luminaires until the
required level is achieved.
The selected luminaire shall be also compatible with the task, lighting requirement and location.
A multiplying Factor of 0.8 (Maintenance Factor) shall be used in the calculations.
Summary of calculation results for external lighting is attached in Item 6.1 showing the required
and achieved average illumination lux levels. Dialux calculation shows the External lighting
calculation results.
5.3 Conclusion
As per the above satisfactory calculation results shown in the attached calculation results
summary, the proposed design and layout of External Lighting layout and for the new facilities
are adequate and meets the lighting level requirement. Hence, acceptable.
